Are you someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys diving into financial data, and is passionate about turning insights into action? We’re looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to join our Finance Team. In this role, you will analyze financial results, manage our FP&A software, and play a crucial part in delivering company-wide reporting. As a key member of our team, you’ll collaborate closely with leaders in R&D and G&A functions, helping to create financial plans and delivering insightful analysis and reporting. You’ll be at the forefront of supporting the accrual process, conducting variance analysis of financial results, and managing planning systems and data. Reporting to the Head of FP&A you will use your strong analytical skills and attention to detail and be an integral part of our finance team driving our financial strategy forward.
Your Impact:
- Prepare monthly / quarterly variance analysis of actuals to forecast and/or budget, communicate, and investigate any meaningful discrepancies, and understand key business drivers.
- Support the annual budget and forecasting process, including template preparation, performing additional analysis as needed for budget and forecasting and preparing PowerPoint slides.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning, as well as ad hoc projects and initiatives.
- Assist in clinical trial accruals, including review of Contract Research Organization (CRO) reports, patient costs incurred, and site payments; work with CROs, CDMOs and other vendors to ensure that expenses are accurately accounted for.
- Review purchase requests, contracts and related amendments in Coupa to analyze and determine various financial impacts, alignment with budgeted amounts and proper coding.
- Assist in the development of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
- Maintain consistent reporting tools to report and communicate financial metrics, including the team's financial planning software (Anaplan).
- Manage the detail-oriented compilation of system files.
- Identify and implement process development and improvement relating to budgeting, forecasting, period close process, and financial reporting.
- Lead/co-lead projects to optimize reporting and systems utilization; support enterprise-wide cross functional initiatives as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or equivalent work experience; MBA degree and/or CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in finance and/or similar role in the biotech or life science industry
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP to facilitate understanding of financial results and forward-looking forecasts.
- Highly skilled in use of information technology (e.g., ERP and financial planning systems).
- Track record of collaboration, stakeholder relationship management, and influencing key decision-makers
- Strong written and oral communication skills allowing for presentation of complex financial concepts in a digestible manner to stakeholders with varying degrees of financial experience.
- Experience with R&D accruals is a plus.

The expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $146,000 to $176,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus.
Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills, and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.
