As a Legal Intern, you will play an important role on Maven’s small but mighty Legal & Compliance team. You will spend the majority of your time: (1) doing legal research projects (relating, for example, to clinical or healthcare regulatory requirements in various states or countries), and (2) assisting our commercial legal team with intake, review, and filing of various commercial agreements. You will see up close how an in-house legal team functions at a late-stage venture-backed startup, and you will have the opportunity to gain valuable commercial, regulatory, and product experience. A successful candidate will be someone who can work independently – startup life in a largely remote organization requires someone who can take direction and move quickly.

This is a part-time role, with an expectation of 20 hours per week. You will be reporting to our Director, Lead Counsel (Product & Privacy), though you should expect to get feedback from all of the members of the Legal & Compliance team that you work with.

As the Legal Intern at Maven, you will:

• Help manage intake for our legal ticketing system, to make sure legal requests are addressed speedily and efficiently
• Review and file executed commercial agreements, identifying important deviations from our standard legal terms
• Help route agreements for signature
• Help review redlines for basic commercial agreements (e.g., NDAs)
• Conduct legal research on a variety of legal topics, including clinical & healthcare regulations, benefits regulations, data privacy laws, employment laws, etc.
• Shadow members of the Legal & Compliance team on various projects
• Be available to assist with a range of other projects as they arise

We’re looking for you to bring:

• At least one completed year of law school (i.e., you should be a 2L or 3L)
• Stellar organizational skills, and the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple requests
• Basic understanding of contract law
• Strong legal research skills, including the ability to research new and unfamiliar areas of law
• Strong, clear verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Resourceful, highly organized self-starter with a bias towards action and efficiency
• Healthcare or benefits experience or interest is a plus
• Experience working with commercial teams or contracting is a plus
