Mark43’s mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team.

We are looking for an Instructional Designer to join our team. You will be a core part of our LMS project team, as we look to build out a new method (e-learning) to get a wide variety of users trained on all aspects of our platform. Your input will be valuable to shaping how we manage and build out content for our LMS, as well as how we approach our in-person, virtual, and webinar training sessions. This role can be fully remote, with opportunities to travel to customers.

What you can expect to work on:

  • Developing engaging and interactive e-learning content for Mark43’s diverse user base.
  • Managing the Mark43 LMS to track user adoption, course completion, and learning outcomes.
  • Maintaining and updating courses as new features are developed.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Designing and implementing assessments to measure learning effectiveness and retention.
  • Creating multimedia elements such as videos, animations, and interactive simulations to enhance the learning experience.
  • Conducting instructional research and learner analysis to inform content development.
  • Facilitating virtual and in-person training sessions, webinars, and workshops.
  • Providing ongoing support and training to users to ensure successful adoption of the LMS.
  • Working towards a worthwhile mission with a team of friendly and intelligent coworkers.

What we expect from you:

  • Design and write engaging pedagogical sessions using instructional design best practices for adult learners (police officers, emergency responders, government employees) for a nation-wide and potentially global audience.
  • Create and edit innovative and engaging e-learning materials/media that can create a measurable learning impact in short timeframes among learners who may lack digital literacy.
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts to get up to speed quickly on our software suite. Knows what questions to ask to build effective learning experiences for our products.
  • Ability to conduct instructional research and assessment on learners and contexts to inform their learning, including (post-COVID) travel to user sites. Can handle themselves professionally in such situations.
  • Ensures implementation of sessions and monitors compliance.
  • Fluency with e-learning creation software such as Adobe Captivate.
  • Fluency with enterprise LMS software, including creating user profiles and assessing usage information to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Opportunity for occasional travel, up to 10%.
  • Willingness to empathize with users who may be unlike yourself.
  • Coming to work with an open mind and leaving your ego at the door.
  • Ownership over your own work and a commitment to every part of a task, from big picture to small details.
  • An attitude that is self-motivated, humble, detail-oriented, and committed to quality.

What you can expect from us:

  • Becoming our first instructional designer, contributing to establishing instructional design best practices at Mark43.
  • Opportunity for deep involvement in the implementation of our LMS.
  • Building mission-critical and socially responsible software to enable first responders to better serve their communities.
  • Constant collaboration with many Mark43 teams, including Implementation, Customer Success, Support and Documentation, Product, Engineering, and People Ops.
  • A team that respects and embraces your ideas and expertise.
  • Coworkers that are motivated by pursuing excellence, rather than the prospect of personal gain.
  • A workplace dedicated to supporting and bettering public safety and government agencies.
  • Management team invested in your personal and career growth, with opportunity and budget to participate in additional external training.
