Summary of Position
As a Senior Software Engineer on the platform team, you are responsible for architecting, designing and developing custom solutions to provide scalable, reliable and secure solutions adhering to software development lifecycle. Perform peer code reviews, coordinate production releases with product owner and stakeholders within the organization. Provide timely updates to direct manager regarding team's progress. You are also expected to be a standard bearer on our team’s development, maintenance, design patterns, and culture. This may include forming development standards, creating internal presentations on best practices, tutorials and pair programming with developers getting comfortable with the language.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Build APIs and web applications using JavaScript that handle complex data models efficiently, while having great architectural design to manage complexity.
Establish technical decisions and direction for one or many projects/teams.
Appropriately manage team demands and delegate technical execution or responsibilities when appropriate.
Direct technical aspect of operations related to escalated client accounts or high severity issues as they affect or confront a project or team.
Attend to both business and technical considerations when designing solutions to project/team or company related issues.
Actively work to improve the company’s technical awareness, depth and use of technology across the business while establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships.
Participate in the evolution of company-level best practices, standards, and policies as it related to software development.
Provide leadership/mentorship as it relates to emerging technologies and preparing Teladoc and engineers for productively integrating the same into business.
Jump in and work on our other JavaScript/React and Ruby/Rails applications, as needed.
Work with commercial CPaaS APIs and open-source real-time communication software supporting high-quality, low latency voice/video communication between millions of users.
The time spent on each responsibility reflects an estimate and is subject to change dependent on business needs.

Qualifications Expected for Position
5+ years experience as a Software Engineer, experience with React and React testing libraries required. Functional components/useEffect hooks experience preferred. Full stack experience preferred.
Working knowledge of web libraries, web applications, programming languages, and web services, such as CSS, CSS3, cross-browser compatibility, HTML, HTML5, TypeScript, JavaScript, REST, and web user interface design (UI).
Able to reduce complex requirements and user interaction flows into long-term API designs.
Capable of debugging problems related to HTTP, XHR, JSON, CORS, SSL, S3, etc.
Direct technical aspect of operations related to escalated client accounts or high severity issues as they affect or confront a project or team.
Approaches engineering requests from a user's vantage point to form architectural and technical requirements.
Excellent English-language written and spoken communication skills.
Experience guiding more junior developers including code reviews, training, etc.
Stays well-informed of emerging technologies and software trends.
Bonus Qualifications:
Competent and willing to write software using Ruby and C#/.Net are a plus.
Experience with commercial CPaaS APIs or open-source real-time communication software preferred.
Acquaintance with git or other version control system. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins experience preferred).
Experience with Test-Driven Development and writing unit and integration tests preferred.
Experience using Behavior-Driven Development suite like Cucumber.
Excellent understanding of object-oriented design principles (SOLID) preferred.
Comfortable working in a cloud environment like Azure preferred.
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes preferred.
Good understanding of architectural messaging patterns and pitfalls using Kafka, Rabbit MQ, etc preferred.
