Summary of Position

Data Engineers are primarily responsible for creating data pipelines and transforming them into usable data that is stored in Cloud stores or relational databases. They determine the best ways to ingest, manipulate data in the database management system, as well as test programs for efficiency, performance and troubleshoot and correct problems. Individuals are expected to analyze and review business requirement documents, Source to Target Mappings and complex data models. Will be responsible for the end-to-end development and testing of the ETL data pipeline processes, including documenting technical data flows between operational systems. Candidates should have proven experience designing and developing transformation rules to support sourcing from transaction databases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, evaluating, adapting of complex techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Frequently advises others on complex matters.

  • Work with various business and IT groups to define, analyze and document the technical requirements.

  • Document code, provide progress reports, and perform code review and peer feedback.

  • Own the entire lifecycle of functional specifications and provide timely delivery to business, development, QA and operations team.

  • Continuously evaluate and identify improvements in the system processes and architecture.

  • Track milestones, activities and inter-dependencies across projects and tasks, with frequent status updates.

  • Apt in logical thinking when solving complex business challenges.

  • Well experienced in programming views, stored procedures, and functions.

  • Design and implement applications to interface with SQL databases and cloud stores.

  • Efficient in data modeling, data governance and data integrity for designing, building, and executing requirements to build data pipelines.

  • Well versed with workflow automation and performance tuning involving creation of database triggers, table indexes and alternate solution designs customed to specific business needs.

  • Creating and designing Dynamic Code components thus supporting extensibility and implementation of enhancements requiring minimum effort and maximum output.

  • Apt in Code review and enhancements per standard industry recommendations.

  • Write test plans; conduct unit testing, regression testing as well as integration testing.

  • Good in written and verbal communications thus able to coordinate and execute the Projects with Technical and business users.

  • Able to drive analysis-based outcomes, that help management take informed decisions.

  • Well versed with all phases of SDLC across environments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Qualifications Expected for Position

  • Strong Skills in Data Modelling such as Star Schema, -Snow Flake Schema, Fact, and dimensional tables. Experience in Data integration of various data sources into data staging area and target data warehouse.

  • Normalization/Denormalization concepts.

  • Experience with multi-dimensional data models.

  • ETL / Data Migration Design.

  • Expert in creating and analyzing complex stored procedures.

  • Experience in performance tuning and query optimization.

  • Excellent communication skills supporting recommendations, design ideas, and analysis to Team and stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of current industry trends in reporting and analytics technologies.

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience with large scale OLTP, Data warehouse and cloud systems.

  • Experience delivering solutions for enterprise level systems.

  • Proven expertise in Data Analysis, profiling, and data cleansing in a VLDB environment.

  • Be a self-thinker, initiator, and motivator.

  • Experience with any scripting or programming language like Python, Shell etc.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with database security concepts and standard methodologies.

  • Experience with MySQL, Aurora, or RedShift databases a plus.

  • Experience with clinical or healthcare data a plus.

  • Experience with Talend a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field (e.g., computer science, business information systems) required; year of work experience may be substituted.

  • Master in degree in relative field is a plus.

  • 11+ years of experience working as a SQL/data developer.

  • 9+ years of experience in data warehouse environment.

  • 7+ years of experience working with ETL design and development.

  • 7+ years of experience in data analysis/data mining.

  • 5+ years of working experience in Agile and scrum methodology.

  • Experience working in AWS, Azure or any cloud environment is a plus.
