Summary of Position

The Senior, Software Engineer is responsible for architecting, designing, and developing custom solutions to provide scalable, reliable, and secure solutions adhering to software development lifecycle. This role performs peer code reviews, coordinates production releases with product owner and stakeholders within the organization. This position provides timely updates to the direct manager regarding team's progress. The Senior Software Engineer is a standard bearer on the team’s development, maintenance, design patterns, and culture. This may include forming development standards, creating internal presentations on best practices, tutorials and pair programming with developers getting comfortable with the language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, evaluating, adapting of complex techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Frequently advises others on complex matters.

  • Design, build and implement high quality software solutions.

  • Establish technical decisions and direction for one or many projects/teams.

  • Appropriately manage team demands and delegate technical execution or responsibilities when appropriate.

  • Direct technical aspect of operations related to escalated client accounts or high severity issues as they affect or confront a project or team.

  • Attend to both business and technical considerations when designing solutions to project/team or company related issues.

  • Actively work to improve the company’s technical awareness, depth, and use of technology across the business while establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships.

  • Participate in the evolution of company-level best practices, standards, and policies as it related to software development.

  • Provide leadership/mentorship as it relates to emerging technologies and prepare Teladoc Health and engineers for productively integrating the same into business.

Qualifications Expected for Position

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted.

  • 8+ years' experience in an equivalent or related role.

  • Experience writing software in one or more technical languages.

  • Experience with SQL, MySQL, or similar relational database systems.

  • Effective written and verbal communicator.

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development and writing unit and integration tests.

  • Experience using Behavior-Driven Development suite.

  • Comfortable working in a cloud environment.

  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery systems.

  • Applies best practices including design patterns and linting to all software development.

  • Stays well-informed of emerging technologies and software trends.

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process preferred.
