The Senior Manager Technical Accounting reports to the Director of Technical Accounting and will play a significant role in ensuring the integrity, consistency and application of GAAP world wide, including supporting the finance team with complex accounting matters, application of new guidances, implementation of accounting policies, practices, and systems. He/she will be a key member of the finance team at Fortinet, and will take on a wide range of responsibilities and work in a number of areas, including Cost Accounting, Technical Accounting and research, GL Accounting, Treasury, SEC Reporting, internal reporting, M&A support, equity investments, as well as a variety of ad hoc projects. The successful applicant will engage in problem solving of most complex accounting matters, research on technical guidance and also prepare internal management presentations for members of the Audit Committee and executive team. In addition to Cost Accounting, GL and Technical accounting, this position offers the opportunity to leverage a background of SEC reporting and SOX with the intensity, dynamics and rapid change of a high-growth technology company. This individual will have the capacity to drive reporting and technical excellence, while supporting the development of practical business processes and solutions. The Senior Manager Technical Accounting will have a background in researching and teaching others about new GAAP as well as existing GAAP requirements, be detail oriented and have strong organizational and relationship building skills. This position requires strong communication capabilities to work with finance and non-finance personnel.
Major Responsibilities
- Technical Accounting, Accounting and Compliance
- Lead and improve complex cost accounting projects quarterly – inventory reserves calculations, manage journal entries, communication with the operations team, and support related forecasting tasks.
- Be responsible for researching and updating internal documentation on technical accounting issues and new accounting guidance and their application to internal and external reporting. Summarize the resulting analysis and conclusion for both executive review and to record in the general ledger.
- Support M&A activities, including contract review, detailed business understanding and identification and resolving of complex accounting issues, communication with accounting and tax teams, testing of various account balances for completeness and accuracy, booking journal entries, and providing SEC reporting team with relevant disclosure support.
- Support treasury function related process development and improvements.
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close for areas of functional responsibility.
- Assist with month-end close including, but not limited to, journal entries, accruals, and reconciling general ledger accounts
- Prepare SEC schedules, department close and reporting packages, analytics, management presentations and efficiency metrics
- Document business processes for standard accounting tasks
- Participate in financial transformation initiatives, implement process changes and establish best practices
- Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues
- Assist with ad-hoc projects and management inquiries
- Work closely with international accounting teams to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparation of the statements of cash flow, earnings per share, and equity roll-forward.
- Operational and Strategic
- Work with Director of Technical Accounting to set priorities and work with regional teams on various initiatives.
- Communication
- Support with the preparation of quarterly audit committee presentations, other audit committee related reports, and external investor presentations
- Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, third party service providers, including external auditors, Assist in quarterly reviews and annual audit with external auditors.
- Provide accounting/disclosure support and advice to world-wide finance personnel
- Develop and maintain working relationships across Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, and other organizations.

Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
- At least 8-10 years of experience with at least 3 years of experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm, preferred
- Strong understanding of typical financial statement line items and financial metrics/ratios
- Experience with Oracle or similar global ERP system, preferred
- Strong analytical skills, creative problem-solving, and ability to summarize conclusions succinctly
- Flexibility and comfort with continuous change, willingness to take on challenges
- Ability to prioritize multiple duties and work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to actively and attentively listen
- High degree of dedication to improvement and strong sense of ownership
- High standards of customer service to contacts both within and outside the company
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Wage ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, and job level. Earnings for this position are expected to be $69,000 - $110,000 Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
All roles are eligible to participate in the Fortinet equity program, Bonus eligibility is reviewed at time of hire and annually at the Company’s discretion
