KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG), is the world’s leading travel search engine. With billions of queries across our platforms, we help people find their perfect flight, stay, rental car and vacation package. We’re also transforming business travel with a new corporate travel solution, KAYAK for Business.
As an employee of KAYAK, you will be part of a travel company that operates a portfolio of global metasearch brands including momondo, Cheapflights and HotelsCombined, among others. From start-up to industry leader, innovation is at our core and every employee has an opportunity to make their mark. Our focus is on building the best travel search engine to make it easier for everyone to experience the world.
We are looking for a Tax Assistant with some in-house experience to join our growing tax team. You will support day-to-day compliance, assist with global reporting cycles, and help us move from manual processes to scalable, technology-enabled ways of working.
Working closely with the team, you will play a key role in the end-to-end tax lifecycle, from indirect tax compliance to assisting with quarter-end group reporting and transfer pricing calculations. This is an ideal role for someone eager to expand their technical breadth across multiple tax disciplines in a high-growth environment.
This role requires you to commute to our London office at least 3 times a week.
In this role, you will focus on:
Indirect Tax (Digital Services focus): Support VAT/GST compliance with a focus on B2B digital advertising supplies. You will assist in reconciling transaction data to ensure accurate reporting of digital service taxes (DST) and cross-border VAT, preparation of return workpapers and assistance with the submission process.
Quarter-End Group Reporting: Provide essential support during the global tax provision process. You will assist in gathering and validating data for income tax accounting (US GAAP) and maintaining tax account reconciliations and rollforward schedules, and assisting with return-to-provision (RTP) calculations.
Transfer Pricing (TP) Assistance: Preparation of Calculations: Executing monthly and quarterly intercompany calculations for service fees, royalty recharges, and cost-plus arrangements, including preparation of related TP journal entries, and assisting with period-over-period variance analysis and explanations. Data Sourcing: Obtaining and validating financial data support from across the business to feed into TP models and profitability monitoring.Compliance Documentation: Assist with the collection of evidence and local financial data to support the timely completion of Local Files and Master File documentation.
WHT & Global Compliance: Help manage Withholding Tax (WHT) documentation for international partners. You will assist in maintaining a tracker of tax residency certificates to minimize tax leakage on global lead-generation revenue.
Tax Technology & Scaling: Contribute to "Tax Transformation" by helping move from manual Excel workbooks to automated data pipelines.
Audit & Research Support: Act as the first line of support for tax audits by gathering "audit trails" and documentation.
Direct tax- Support the filing lifecycle by helping align timelines with advisors & internally, and help request and gather information from the various stakeholders internally.
Other: Assist with month end, quarter end and year balance sheet reconciliations, budget management and payment coordination with AP.
What We’re Looking For
Foundational Experience: Some hands-on experience in tax compliance (Indirect or Corporate), ideally within the digital services or technology sector.
Reporting Mindset: Basic familiarity with accounting principles and an interest in learning Group Tax Reporting and Transfer Pricing mechanics.
Tech Savvy: A genuine interest in tax technology and automation. You should be highly confident working with large data sets in Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) and comfortable performing basic data validation. You should be open to learning new ERP/Tax software and assisting with process automation.
Analytical Rigor: Strong attention to detail; you enjoy "diving into the weeds" of data to ensure accuracy in reporting.
Communication: Ability to explain tax concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders and work collaboratively across a global business.
Proactive Attitude: A curious, "self-starter" mindset. You are comfortable taking ownership of assistant-level tasks while asking the right questions to grow your technical knowledge.
Adaptability: Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is excited by the variety of a "generalist" junior tax role.
