As a Sr. Technical Writer, you will build engaging documentation for a highly technical audience. You will build content with a focus on jobs to be done and an eye towards conceptual and task-based information. As you collaborate with your SMEs to create new content, you will keep SEO principles in mind, making sure that content is modular and easy to find for Illumio customers.

You will be responsible for multiple documentation deliverables in multiple formats including videos, learning maps, and more.

  • What’s New – Provide engaging content for new features with a focus on the business problem it solves and the jobs to be done.

  • Installation and Administration content – Build detailed installation and administration guides with guidelines on troubleshooting. Build time to test the content before releasing it to customers.

  • Best Practices content – Engage with Professional Services and Support teams to understand what customers are experiencing in the field and provide best practices for multiple user environments.

  • API content – Collaborate with Engineering to write detailed descriptions and use cases for API calls.

What Do You Need To Be Successful In This Role:

  • To be successful in this role, you must collaborate effectively with product management, engineering, UX, and Support/Professional Service teams.

  • Create complex technical documentation, videos, and in-app help, ensuring the highest standard in quality and timeliness. Be responsible for making sure that your content is complete, accurate, and tested so that customers can get their jobs done.

  • Be proactive about being embedded in scrum teams and shift left to make sure you are in synch with the weekly release schedules.

  • Provide review drafts early, making sure to allow time for publishing builds.

  • Explore the latest in tools such as AI. Recommend ways to increase process efficiencies so you can spend more time building high quality content for customers.

  • Have a beginner’s mindset and be open to mentorship from other senior writers on the team.

What You Will Accomplish:

We seek an experienced technical writer with knowledge of data center networking and security technologies to create documentation and related content for our adaptive security platform. The team is responsible for producing a variety of content and document types including in-product help, videos, learning maps, and more. In this role, you will develop quality content (written, visual, multimedia), and deliver short-form and long-form content on schedule with product releases.

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of technical writing experience

  • BA/BS in Technical Communications, English, Computer Science, or equivalent subject

  • Impeccable written and communication skills

  • A hands-on approach to the technology and products that you will document

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Comfort with changing software development situations and shifting priorities

  • Experience working in an agile environment

  • Strong team player with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to drive, follow, and evangelize cross-team processes

  • Significant work experience in startups or fast-paced enterprise technology development environments

  • 2-3 years of experience with MadCap Flare

  • Expertise in structured authoring languages (DITA/XML) and tools such as Git, GitLab, Jira, Confluence

  • Deep knowledge of network security technologies (e.g., networking, security policies)

  • Experience creating API documentation

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with automating documentation publishing

  • Experience with source control systems, specifically Git

  • Experience setting up and documenting Linux and/or Windows Server based-applications

  • Experience with content migration projects, moving content from unstructured to structured environments

Pay Range:

$122,000 USD - $140,000 USD

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, or applicable laws.
