Role highlights:

  • Title: AIT Engineer - Electronics

  • Department: Global Manufacturing Organisation

  • Location: Greece

  • Reporting to: AIT Engineering Team Leader

  • Type of Contract: Permanent

  • Working model: On-site (occasional travel for environmental test and launch campaigns)

  • Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required).

Why this role matters:

The Electronics AIT Engineer transforms satellite electrical designs into reliable, flight-ready hardware. You are the technical authority for electrical and electronic hardware in Athens: how the satellite is wired and connected, what proves it works, and what evidence exists that every build was done correctly.

You own the integration readiness of the electrical subsystems, define the AIT processes, test means and ground support equipment the facilities need, and make sure the design, the processes and the tooling can carry production to high throughput. You also feed what you learn on the floor back into design, so that each build is more manufacturable, more testable and more reliable than the last.

Who We Are

ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth.

ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system.

ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future.

Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

AIT Process Definition and Industrialisation

  • Define the electrical MAITE processes for building sub-assemblies and satellites: integration flows, standard sequences, work packages and test strategy.

  • Qualify the critical electrical integration and test processes, and define the acceptance criteria and standardised procedures that go with them.

  • Specify the test means, tooling and workstations each process needs, anticipating them ahead of programme milestones, and lead the transfer from prototype to series so that processes and tooling can carry production to high throughput.

Design Maturity and Co-Engineering

  • Work with Engineering from the concept phase so that design and production constraints are aligned, applying design for manufacturing, assembly and testability (DFM, DFA, DFT) and bringing harness routing, connector access, test points and diagnostic provisions into internal design iterations before the design is frozen.

  • Support internal and supplier design and readiness reviews (e.g. PDR, CDR, PRR, IRR, TRR), ensuring designs are mature and ready for transition into production, and identify industrial risks early with the action plans that close them.

Electrical Integration and Assembly

  • Own the integration readiness of the satellite electrical subsystems, including avionics, power, data handling and communications.

  • Lead and execute electrical integration of satellites and sub-assemblies: harness routing and connection, electrical and RF connections, connector handling, grounding and bonding.

  • Own the electrical build standard, including crimping and soldering practice, connector identification, continuity and insulation verification, cleanliness and ESD discipline.

  • Perform and oversee in-house PCB assembly and rework according to defined work packages and workmanship standards.

  • Verify electronic assemblies before integration and support the floor hands-on during build, connection and test setup.

Functional and Environmental Test

  • Plan, prepare and lead functional, interface and performance test campaigns at subsystem and satellite level, and support the electrical side of environmental campaigns including EMC, thermal vacuum and vibration.

  • Develop and maintain automated and semi-automated test scripts, and monitor telemetry and telecommand during test execution.

  • Act as first responder for electrical anomalies during integration and test, performing initial diagnosis with laboratory instruments and taking findings to root cause.

Electrical Ground Support Equipment

  • Specify, design, procure and validate Electrical Ground Support Equipment and flatsat configurations required for functional and environmental testing.

  • Define the setup, configuration and validation requirements for EGSE, and verify it before use on flight hardware.

Supplier Parts and Electronic Assemblies

  • Act as the technical authority for electronic parts and assemblies from suppliers, covering capability assessment, special process review and First Article Inspection.

  • Define the inspections and workmanship criteria required to verify electronic assemblies, harnesses and PCBAs.

Configuration, Documentation and Anomalies

  • Maintain as-built electrical configuration and traceability, including hardware and software versions, and apply engineering changes consistently to hardware and documentation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions, coordinating with the Engineering team, the production team and any other team needed to ensure schedule and quality adherence.

Facilities and Process Requirements

  • Define the electrical AIT process requirements for the facilities and work with the Global Manufacturing Infrastructure team on the layout, power, grounding and test provisions that support them.

  • Define the ESD and handling requirements that electrical integration and test activities must meet, and propose improvements where the process or the environment falls short.

Standardization and Continuous Improvement

  • Capture lessons learned from the floor to improve procedures, test means, test efficiency and build reliability as production volumes increase, and align with the Global AIT and Engineering teams on product standards and process updates.

  • Train and mentor local engineers and technicians on electrical integration and test, fostering a culture of quality and accountability.

What we’re looking for

Must haves:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in the integration, testing or production of complex electronic hardware systems (e.g. aerospace, defense, automotive, semiconductors, satellites), including work on flight or equivalently critical hardware.

  • Demonstrated experience defining and qualifying electrical integration and test processes, turning them into standardised work packages, and taking a product from first units towards series production.

  • Deep technical knowledge in electronics, with system-level understanding across full product architectures and the ability to spot issues across the interfaces between design, production and operations.

  • Demonstrated ownership of functional and electrical test campaigns, from specification through execution to reporting.

  • Practical mastery of electrical integration: harness routing and connection, crimping and soldering practice, connector identification, continuity and insulation verification.

  • Working knowledge of satellite power subsystems, including batteries, power distribution and the handling and safety constraints that come with them, sufficient to integrate and test them on flight hardware.

  • Experience specifying, designing or validating EGSE or comparable test equipment.

  • Proficiency developing and executing automated or semi-automated test scripts (Python or equivalent).

  • Hands-on troubleshooting of complex electronic systems with laboratory instruments, and the ability to read electrical schematics, interface control documents and technical specifications.

  • Strong track record of enabling design for manufacturing, assembly and testability (DFM, DFA, DFT), working alongside design teams rather than after them.

  • Familiarity with verification and configuration management in complex hardware industries, including root cause analysis and non-conformance ownership through to closure.

  • Working knowledge of cleanroom and ESD discipline. Integration in Athens is typically ISO 8, with ISO 7 and ISO 5 environments also possible.

  • Experience in multidisciplinary engineering environments, mentoring engineers or technicians, and communicating clearly with designers, production leads and executive stakeholders.

  • Strong communication skills in English (written & spoken).

Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with electronics workmanship standards: IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001.

  • Familiarity with EN 9100 and ECSS standards as applied to space hardware.

  • RF integration and test experience, including connector care, cable loss and measurement practice.

  • Embedded systems and hardware interfaces (SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, Ethernet), and familiarity with Linux.

  • Experience supporting environmental test campaigns from the electrical side (EMC, thermal vacuum, vibration).

  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, Manufacturo (MES) or Jira for build records and configuration control.

  • Launch campaign experience.
