Senior Software Engineer II, Backend, Marketplace Framework
Role Summary
Our mission at HubSpot is to help millions of organizations grow better.
As a Senior Software Engineer II on our Marketplace Framework team, you’ll help build the unified architecture that powers all HubSpot marketplaces. You’ll design data models and integrations that connect our partner ecosystem with customers, enabling developers to list and distribute products more efficiently. This role is ideal for someone who’s product-minded, collaborative, and eager to shape how businesses grow on HubSpot’s platform.
The Framework team’s engineers are all based out of our Cambridge, MA office and come in 2-3 days per week.
What You’ll Do

Design and build the core backend data models that power HubSpot’s marketplaces.

Develop integrations between the marketplace and internal developer tools to create a unified product model.

Automate and optimize parts of the listing process to accelerate time-to-market for new products.

Collaborate with Product Management and Design to define the team roadmap and technical strategy.

Mentor engineers to support their growth and maintain engineering excellence.

Ensure delivery of performant, reliable software that scales with HubSpot’s growing ecosystem.

Contribute to architectural decisions that impact how millions of users experience HubSpot’s marketplaces.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
-
9+ years of professional software engineering experience building large-scale backend systems.

Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, or Go).

Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and data models.

Deep understanding of distributed systems, reliability, and performance optimization.

Demonstrated ability to mentor peers and drive technical discussions.

Strong collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional teams.

Commitment to clean, maintainable code and scalable architecture.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Experience building or contributing to marketplace or platform systems.

Familiarity with schema-driven design and data modeling best practices.

Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).

Passion for improving developer experience and platform efficiency.

Prior experience working in SaaS environments or product-led organizations.

Pay & Benefits
The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are tailored to your skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
