About the product
We’re seeking a highly skilled and driven Principal Product Designer to join our Automation team to lead the evolution of the product experience for automation across the Hubspot platform—including our flagship Workflows product. This is a highly used and monetized area of our product where users desire both feature richness and ease of use. You will be instrumental in defining how newer AI paradigms can help shape the user experience that best meets customer needs, helping to drive product vision, and collaborating closely with product and engineering leadership to build innovative solutions for this critical part of our product platform.
As a Principal Designer, you will be a key driver in navigating ambiguity, rapidly iterating, and validating design hypotheses. Your expertise in high-fidelity prototyping will be essential in communicating concepts, testing assumptions, and ensuring a seamless user experience. This role needs a proactive, strategic thinker who builds engineering context quickly, learns from users and competitors and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. We’re looking for someone passionate about understanding the needs of our users and solving for them through innovative design work and collaborative problem solving.
What You'll Do:
- Lead Design for Concept Car experience vision: Drive the end-to-end design process for a new product experience, from initial concept to partnering with product and engineering on the optimal execution path.
- Collaborate across functional areas and levels to get results: This is a deeply established and used product area that, while in need of fresh thinking and a new approach, requires high consideration for change management to ensure a successful rollout.
- Rapid Prototyping: Create interactive prototypes using tools like Figma to effectively communicate design concepts and test user interactions
- User Research & Validation: Conduct user research, synthesize findings, and translate insights into actionable design decisions
- Strategic Vision: Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define the product vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with user needs and business goals
- Design System Contribution: Contribute to and evolve HubSpot’s design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across new products
- Mentorship & Leadership: Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, fostering a culture of design excellence
- Navigate Ambiguity: Effectively work both leadership on longer terms goals and existing product teams on incremental improvements, defining processes, operating systems and delivering results in the face of uncertainty.
Here’s what success in your role looks like
- Ability to rapidly develop high-fidelity prototypes to help teams and customers visualize the impact of this new experience
- Having deep domain knowledge across all product areas
- Being considered a master in uncovering new unmet user needs across the product
- Using knowledge of root causes to investigate new problem spaces that span multiple groups
- Having deep data analysis skills and a knack for improving our data collection systems
- Helping team members engage more deeply with data
- Modeling ways to gracefully shift gears as new information becomes available
You’ll love this role if you
- Model “thinking like an owner” in terms of how team should spend time & resources
- Enjoy tracking multiple high complexity projects and helping create visibility in these areas
- Are known for your communication artifact quality (decks, memos, etc)
- Model best practices for knowledge sharing, collaboration and facilitation
- Have a knack for helping others embrace change across multiple groups
- Master the ability to appeal on both logical and emotional fronts when selling an agenda or vision
- Clarify shared expectations across groups in service if a larger mission
- Have the proven ability to break down resistance and anticipate pitfalls
- Are experienced in fostering team health, mission, and purpose
- Can confidently deliver clear, direct, and actionable feedback—and ask for it in return
- Share our HEART values and practice growth mindset
