Engineering Lead- Reporting Product Group

Engineering

Flex - Cambridge, Massachusetts

We’re seeking an Engineering Lead to join a team working on a high-impact, high-priority mission within the Reporting Product Group at HubSpot.

About the Team

Reporting is what proves HubSpot's value to our customers. We connect their actions to results to allow users to see where their hard work in HubSpot has paid off. This is not back-office reporting; instead, all 120,000 customers use reporting.  Engineers in reporting face some of the most complex technical and customer problems out there. We are ingesting all of our customers' data (including the entire contents of the CRM and all their events like web page views) and trying to present a simple but powerful reporting interface.  This is not an easy feat when you are working with petabytes of data daily.

About the Role

This Engineering Lead will join the Goals team. This team’s objective is to deeply integrate goals and KPIs into the HubSpot experience. They aim to help customers create focus, contextualize insights, take meaningful action, and ultimately grow better. This is a high impact mission- when we help customers define, measure, and manage their journey of growth, it instills deeper trust in the HubSpot reporting stack and overall product.

HubSpot has thousands of microservices, primarily written in Java 11, and work with highly distributed systems that leverage and push on open source technologies such as HBase, Kafka, Spark, Memcached, MySQL, and ElasticSearch. These systems let our users store, automate, report on, and interact with their customers at scale.

As an Engineering Lead on a Reporting team at HubSpot, you’ll do many things— and you likely already have experience doing some of them in the past. We are looking for people who:

  • Are strong backend engineers interested in staying hands on and writing in the Java ecosystem (at least 50% of your time
  • Have previous software engineering experience in a leadership position - managing engineers and taking responsibility for the team’s software design and delivery, while making individual contributions to the codebase.
  • Have a passion for hard problems and customer-first thinking.
  • Foster an environment that encourages autonomy and psychological safety.
  • Never accept the status quo; we need engineers and leaders who can see beyond what we have, and towards what we can build, while maintaining an understanding about how to get there iteratively.
  • Demonstrate pragmatic decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Work autonomously, lead transparently, and prioritize product and people over strict processes.
  • Partner with their triad (Product Manager and Product Designer) to design, scope, and deliver solutions to help our customers manage and grow their businesses.

Engineering Leads play to their strengths, but are aligned to HubSpot’s mission and show the leadership qualities that we’ve found to be most effective.
