We know what you are thinking…WHAT IS THE ROLE AND WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING? 👀

As a Staff DevOps Engineer on the Infrastructure Platform team, you will design and operate the secure, scalable infrastructure foundations that power Housecall Pro’s engineering organization — while serving as a technical force multiplier for our DevOps capabilities.

Your mission is to ensure that security, compliance, and supply-chain protections are embedded by default into the infrastructure platform, not layered on as gates or afterthoughts. You will work at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and policy automation — building primitives, guardrails, and golden paths that make secure delivery the easiest path for product teams.

This role is deeply hands-on and highly influential. You will operate as a staff-level engineer across Infrastructure Platform and our Developer Platform, translating security requirements into scalable platform abstractions, partnering on policy design, and ensuring the infrastructure layer reliably enforces security and compliance controls without slowing delivery.

The work you do will directly impact platform reliability, cloud security posture, audit readiness, and developer trust in the platform.

In your day to day, you will:

  • Lead the strategy, roadmap, and execution for operating AWS as a stable, scalable service platform for engineering teams.
  • Own the architecture and day-to-day health of AWS environments, including compute, networking, storage, identity, and Kubernetes-based runtime platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvements in platform reliability, performance, and fault tolerance through observability, capacity planning, and resilience engineering.
  • Establish AWS best practices for account structure, networking, isolation, and service usage to support safe scale across teams and workloads.
  • Build and enforce Infrastructure-as-Code as the default operating model, enabling consistent provisioning, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Improve developer experience by providing self-service infrastructure patterns, templates, and paved paths that reduce friction and operational risk.
  • Manage cloud cost visibility and optimization, ensuring teams understand usage, tradeoffs, and efficiency without slowing delivery.
  • Partner with reliability, delivery, and security stakeholders to ensure cloud platform capabilities support uptime, performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Mentor and grow a cloud engineering team with strong ownership, operational discipline, and customer-focused thinking.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to align cloud platform investments with product growth and company priorities.

We think this role is for you if have...

  • 8+ years of experience in software, infrastructure, or systems engineering roles.
  • Deep hands-on experience operating production systems in AWS.
  • Strong expertise with Kubernetes and containerized runtime environments.
  • Experience designing and operating infrastructure platforms or internal developer platforms.
  • Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
  • Strong understanding of cloud security fundamentals: IAM, network segmentation, secrets management, encryption, and least-privilege access.
  • Experience embedding security or compliance controls into platforms or pipelines (policy-as-code, guardrails, drift prevention).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, scaling behavior, and failure modes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams.

What will help you succeed???

  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, cross-team problem spaces with clear ownership boundaries.
  • A strong bias toward automation, defaults, and guardrails over manual enforcement.
  • Ability to reason about security, reliability, and cost together — not in isolation.
  • Deep debugging skills across infrastructure, networking, runtime, and policy layers.
  • Product mindset: you care about adoption, usability, and trust — not just correctness.
  • Curiosity about system behavior and a drive to improve platform foundations over time.
  • Ability to mentor senior engineers and elevate technical standards across teams.
  • Willingness to challenge existing assumptions and advocate for better long-term solutions.
