About the role

Gusto is looking for a Partner Marketing Lead who can collaborate with our ecosystem and channel partners to reach and help more small businesses. You’re classically trained in marketing techniques, analytical and strategic, tech savvy, creative, and think outside the box to help us reach small businesses in new ways. You balance decision making with dreaming big - and have the results to show for it.

You will work closely with our Partnerships, Product, and Marketing leaders to build & execute marketing strategies that grow our partnerships, drive customer and partner engagement, and boost revenue growth. You understand how to evaluate and balance a partnership portfolio, and deploy and measure effective marketing channels to achieve outcomes we need to grow the business.

This is a comprehensive, hands-on role that will allow you to get in on the ground level as we build out a partner marketing discipline and function. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Strategic Partnership Marketing: Collaborate with product partners, channel partners, and alliance partners to create joint marketing plans that align with our mutual objectives, identifying opportunities for cross-promotion and co-marketing initiatives. Establish shared goals, quarterly calendar, marketing commitments with key strategic partnership
  • Awareness Building: Develop and execute marketing campaigns to increase awareness of our partnership ecosystem through various channels, including email marketing, social media, webinars, and content marketing.
  • Messaging and Positioning: Craft compelling messaging and positioning for each partnership type, highlighting the value and benefits of collaborating with Gusto
  • Content Creation: Create high-quality marketing collateral, including blog posts, whitepapers, case studies, and videos, to support partnership initiatives and educate customers about the value of our combined offerings. Execute on all elements of the demand mix
  • Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze the performance of partnership marketing campaigns, providing insights and recommendations for optimization, and regularly report on key metrics to stakeholders.
  • Event Management: Plan and execute events, such as webinars, workshops, and trade shows, to promote our partnerships and facilitate engagement with partners and customers.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with product partners, channel partners, alliance partners and key internal stakeholders ensuring clear communication and collaboration on marketing initiatives.
  • Competitive Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends and competitors' activities, identifying opportunities and threats for our partnership ecosystem.
  • Build to Scale: Identify and execute low lift opportunities to create, execute and streamline delivery of evergreen marketing assets and engagement tactics at scale, to all channel and product partnerships.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience and track record of managing successful marketing campaigns, with internal cross-functional teams, external partners, vendors, or third-party agencies to execute marketing initiatives. 5+ years in partnerships marketing.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling messaging for different audiences.
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving and project management abilities, with a focus on driving results and achieving business objectives through partnership marketing.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret data, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and make data-driven decisions to optimize marketing efforts.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, especially as partner landscapes and market conditions evolve.
  • Has experience building and balancing bespoke marketing campaigns with scalable initiatives

Partner marketing focus:

  • Knowledge of partner ecosystems, channel dynamics, partnership models, and experience leveraging, building, and optimizing channels, events, sponsorships, and other effective marketing strategies.
  • Familiarity with partner relationship management (PRM) platforms, marketing automation tools, and CRM systems.
  • Creative thinking and innovation, with a passion for exploring new ideas and approaches to partner marketing and growth.
  • Experience with co-marketing programs, joint acquisition campaigns, and partner enablement initiatives.
  • Experience with event planning, execution and ROI analysis specifically with partner events, trade shows, and conferences.

Not required but handy:

  • Knowledge and experience with HR, payroll, compliance, and/or human-centered industries

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $173,00 - $212,000 yr for San Francisco & New York, and $147,00 - $180,000 yr in Denver & most remote locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
