Guild is hiring a Category Manager to join its Category Management team. In this role, you would be a core contributor to Guild’s Learning Marketplace strategy, managing and developing one or more categories of academic programs for working adult learners. You will become a subject matter expert for the programs within your categories, crafting short and long-term visions for its growth and operation. You will be at the helm of cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing category performance regarding outcomes, access, and coverage.
As part of the newly established Category Management team, your role will be crucial in determining how categories or groups of academic programs evolve within Guild’s Learning Marketplace. This role requires a cross-functional, analytical approach; you will glean insights from learners, employers, data, and the broader education landscape to answer complex questions and drive forward initiatives critical to our business. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with both learning and employer partners, and with Guild senior leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- With Category Management leadership, oversee your category/categories, understanding their contents, performance, growth, and how they set Guild apart to cater to employer and learner needs.
- Establish annual and quarterly priorities to optimize category value and improve performance.
- Support analytical projects to answer strategic questions or validate cases for category initiatives. Lead analytical workstreams and laterally manage partner teams to support. Share insights with department and organizational leadership.
- Manage cross-functional initiatives to drive category success, collaborating with various teams including Learning Partner Success, Marketing, Product, Employer Partner Services, and more.
- Develop strategies to expand your category's programs to meet learner and employer needs. Identify and validate the key priorities for growth, select the best programs and partners to meet needs, and work closely with Business Development to set strategy for new Learning Partner acquisition.
- Act as a subject matter expert on our Learning Marketplace programs and strategies, sharing insights and support across the organization and with external partners.
- Identify areas for process improvement, develop tools and templates to improve our impact on strategy development and marketplace growth, and gain agreement from other teams on implementation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative. Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets, data manipulation, and model/chart creation, along with an ability to interpret trends and translate information into insights and recommendations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear communications.
- Excels at building cross-functional connections and balancing the needs of internal partners, often with differing agendas or incentives.
- Strong project/program management skills, proactively coordinating across teams to ensure efficient execution.
- Experience in facilitating decision-making without direct authority, comfortable challenging assumptions and conventional wisdom to achieve the best solution.
- An eagerness to learn, a low ego with a dedication to continuous improvement, and an intellectual curiosity about evolving trends in education.
- Can rapidly familiarize yourself with new topics and thrive in unfamiliar territories.
- Structured problem-solving skills, capable of deconstructing big, difficult questions into discrete, analyzable elements.
- Self-starter attitude with an entrepreneurial approach, able to independently identify problems and solutions, and can run projects from start to finish.
- Awareness of Guild's business and deep curiosity about the higher education and/or career mobility landscape
- Enjoy working on multiple complex and evolving problems concurrently.
We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a base salary range of $105,000 - $127,500 as well as company stock options.
