An overview of this role

The Senior Manager, People Communications & Engagement will help advance our team member experience by ensuring both our communication and engagement activities strengthen GitLab’s high-performance culture. They will manage the People Communications & Engagement team, helping to coach and guide the members of their team. This is a highly cross-functional role that intersects with our People, Corporate Communications, G&A functions, and GitLab leadership. The Senior Manager, People Communications & Engagement will be responsible for maintaining cross-functional relationships to ensure information is available and accurate for all team members and that leaders across GitLab are aware of communication channels and best practices for managing change and engaging with their teams. Additionally, they will manage all-company internal events, like GitLab Assembly, ensuring content and delivery are effectively managed.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive a communications and engagement strategy, roadmap, and communications calendar to help maintain and improve team member engagement
  • Lead and coach the people communications & engagement team
  • Collaborate with various leaders and members of the Marketing and People teams to plan and improve company-wide team member communications including Slack, issue comments, and other asynchronous communication, Handbook education, company calls, etc.
  • Help moderate internal communications across General & Administrative teams to ensure GitLab values are upheld as well as compliance with our code of conduct
  • Drive engagement activities that are intended to improve team member engagement and build culture
  • Drive survey strategy and execution to ensure team members are heard and participation rates in engagement surveys remains high
  • Provide ‘internal PR’ support, including crisis communications
  • Act as a communications consultant to help various teams develop campaigns for internal programs or initiatives (e.g. GitLab referral program, Mental Health Awareness, celebratory events)
  • Curate and publish key internal news (e.g. Bi-weekly newsletters) on a weekly basis
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop specific communication plans (e.g., work with People Business Partners and People Operations on Engagement Survey communication)
  • Plan, communicate, and coordinate celebratory occasions, company communication initiatives, volunteer activities, and other team member engagement opportunities
  • Be an ambassador for GitLab’s culture, infusing GitLab’s mission, culture, and values into everything we do

What You’ll Bring

  • Relevant communications experience
  • Self-motivated and ability to prioritize a number of on-going workstreams
  • Proven track record of delivering internal communications that are representative of company values and culture in a global or international setting
  • Uncanny ability to develop relationships and work with team members at all levels, including executive leadership, across a wide variety of teams and departments
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and listening skills
  • Adaptable and can think quickly on your feet
  • Know how and when to take initiative to get projects done by masterfully using all possible resources
  • Exceptionally well-organized with fine-tuned project and program management skills

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$107,500$230,400 USD
