Reports to: Vice President, IT

Position Summary

As the Associate Director of Infrastructure and Operations, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our company's technological infrastructure and operations support our mission to provide solutions that aim to eradicate obesity and type 2 diabetes, for good. In this high-impact position, you will be responsible for managing a 24x7 Service Desk team, overseeing infrastructure, desktop support, and the digital experience, and efficiently handle change control processes. This role requires a strong leader who can help scale our operations to meet the demands of a high-growth business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of Fractyl Health’s network, storage, security, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage and mature the existing external IT service desk, ensuring mutually defined SLAs are achieved.
  • Collaborate with existing IT service desk to support organization on-site and remain available to be on-site 4-5 days, as needed.
  • Ensure harmonized, consistent IT Operations and reliable end-user support experiences for HQ and remote users.
  • Oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of security systems, servers, desktop devices, IT operations applications, networks, and the service desk.
  • Implement best practices for MS-based cloud architecture, including security, compliance, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Manage external service provider(s) to ensure all system configurations, software installations, updates, and upgrades to Windows servers, MS services, applications, and other infrastructure systems occur.
  • Monitor system performance and availability, proactively taking steps to maximize uptime and performance across both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Develop capacity plans and budgets that meet the growth, scalability, and changing needs of the business, optimizing costs across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Develop and test comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans, particularly in cloud environments.
  • Partner with IT leadership to develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, procedures, and associated plans for security, data center, desktops, and infrastructure based on industry-standard best practices, SOX, FDA, and GxP requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and meet their IT infrastructure needs, particularly in support of medical device research and development activities.
  • Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, Fractyl’s policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
  • Bring a “can do” spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned.

Education or Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Professional Work Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure(including servers, networks, and storage systems) and end-user support, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in managing cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, compliance requirements, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as GxP, CSV (CRF 21 Part 11) FDA, and ISO 13485 is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage third-party service providers, cross-functional teams and drive complex projects to successful completion.
  • Proficiency in ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
  • Applicable experience in biotech, pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries preferred.
  • Prior vocational experience in related fields a plus (i.e. Co-Ops, Internships, Fellowships, etc.).
