Fourier is working on making on-site Hydrogen universally accessible. Our breakthrough architecture enables highly modular and fully automated electrolyzers that scale to any size and optimize efficiency at all loads. We are on a mission to transition the global energy landscape towards a purely sustainable and emission free future.
About The Role
We are looking for an engineer to support the development and manufacturing of state of the art hydrogen electrolyzer cells . The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, modifying, and maintaining electrolyzer test stations to meet specific product development goals. You will assemble single cells and short stacks, operate and diagnose test equipment, and deliver high-quality, consistent testing results. Working closely with the stack team, you'll help design and execute electrochemical test protocols, conduct mechanical and electrochemical characterizations, and collaborate with the stack team to automate data analysis for data-driven decision-making.
Fourier engineers work in a hands-on, collaborative environment to solve problems and push progress forward. Qualified candidates should have prior hands-on experience building and testing electrolyzer and/or fuel cells.

Fourier engineers work in a hands-on, collaborative environment to solve problems and push progress forward. Qualified candidates should have prior hands-on experience building and testing electrolyzer and/or fuel cells.
Roles and responsibilities
- Procure, install, modify, and maintain electrolyzer test station components according to test operational requirements to validate cell designs.
- Build single cells and short stacks, conduct pre-operation inspections, operate the testing stations, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Work closely with the stack team to create and implement electrochemical testing protocols, performing both mechanical and electrochemical assessments.
- Collaborate with the stack team to streamline and automate data collection, analysis, and decision-making procedures.
- Document, analyze, and generate comprehensive reports on test outcomes and diagnostics, offering suggestions to the stack team for improving electrolyzer performance and durability.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on stack-related issues during both prototype development and production stages, addressing any field failures.
- Develop and introduce advanced testing methods and protocols to verify stack component designs and identify potential areas for improving both performance and durability.
- Design and create custom fixtures, jigs, and tools to enhance flow distribution and improve component selection processes.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of the test lab, including regular calibration and upkeep of equipment.
- Diagnose and repair equipment as necessary, applying advanced troubleshooting techniques.
- Promote and ensure a safe working environment in the lab.
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in PEM electrolyzers, fuel cells, or a similar industry.
- Demonstrated mechanical skills and strong analytical abilities with hands-on expertise.
- In-depth knowledge of test station components, processes, and control systems.
- Experience in developing test procedures and generating detailed reports.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic, primarily in-person and laboratory-based environment.
- Proven capability to work both independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with electrochemical testing methods and procedures.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as MS Excel, Python, or equivalent software.
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D) in relevant field
- Experience with metal coating processes such as sputter, evaporation, spray, or plating
- Design of catalytic reactions: optimization of cost vs performance
- Expertise with manufacturing processes: conventional machining + etch + additive
- Manufacturing experience with PTFE membranes
- Fully paid Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
- Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
- 401k
- Diverse and inclusive work environment
- Paid sick days and vacation
