FogPharma is a biopharmaceutical company pioneering the discovery and development of Helicon™ therapeutics, which are peptides capable of efficient cell entry and modulation of both protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. Through Helicon therapeutics, FogPharma is poised to revolutionize the medical possibilities for patients by precisely drugging intracellular targets long understood to be significant drivers of disease but never before drugged due to the limitations of existing drug modalities to act within the cell.
FOG-001, the company’s first-in-class TCF-blocking β-catenin inhibitor, is being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 study for patients with advanced solid tumors, including colorectal cancer. FogPharma is fully leveraging the unprecedented potential Helicons present by deploying proprietary, custom-built machine learning and computational methods as part of its discovery and development process. FogPharma has raised more than $500 million to date from leading life sciences investors. FogPharma is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass.
What’s the opportunity?
We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Senior / Principal Associate Scientist to join our dynamic, interdisciplinary drug discovery team. In this lab-based role, you will leverage our next-generation screening and design platforms to discover Helicons that target drivers of severe disease that remain out of reach of current therapeutics. You will run and help develop liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based screening assays to optimize Helicons from early hits through biologically active leads, assessing target binding, physicochemical properties, and DMPK profiles. Ideal candidates will be passionate and energetic, with significant hands-on biochemistry, bioanalytical, or proteomics lab experience, and a desire to grow into an independent drug hunter.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Run affinity selection-mass spectrometry-based multiplexed screening assays to discover Helicons exhibiting potent binding to a variety of challenging protein targets.
- Optimize and run new mass spectrometry-based, multiplexed in vitro DMPK assays and associated bioanalytical workflows to interrogate Helicon DMPK properties, including tissue distribution, non-specific tissue binding, and transporter uptake.
- Develop, validate, and run liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry methods to enable rapid and reliable read-outs.
- Assist in integrating structure-based design with cheminformatics tools to iteratively optimize screening hits.
- Accurately record, analyze, and present data to team members and company
- Act as a dynamic and collaborative teammate with other members of our interdisciplinary research group.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- MS with 5-8+ years or BS with 7-10+ years of industry experience in biochemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, proteomics, or related field.
- Significant experience with biochemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, or proteomics lab methods, including extensive experience with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, is required.
- Familiarity with fundamental organic chemistry and biophysical principles is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to generate and communicate high quality data in a timely manner.
- Creativity, resourcefulness, and an ability to adhere to deadlines and commitments.
- A passion for working at the chemistry-biology interface, and an interest and desire to learn the drug discovery and development process.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and a personality of risk-taking, positivity, leadership, adaptability, adventurousness, and excitement to build a pioneering company and work in a dynamic, goal- and performance-oriented team environment.
