Role overview:

As Director of Data at Flashfood, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping and scaling the company’s data function, focusing not just on strategy and execution, but on building a high-performing team. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll lead a team of data managers, analysts, and engineers, and work cross-functionally to ensure data fuels revenue growth, partner retention, and actionable insights that drive impact across the organization.

Responsibilities:

Insights & Business Enablement

• Build a comprehensive partner analytics dashboard that drives insights and increases revenue/retention
• Be hands-on with data infrastructure, including working directly in Snowflake and Databricks environments, designing data models, and overseeing ML model integration
• Integrate and automate data into decision-making across teams, supporting strategic initiatives
• Lead the development of dashboards, visualizations, and reports that support strategic initiatives
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities to integrate predictive models into products and operations. Drive model deployment workflows using modern tools like Databricks

Operational Leadership

• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline data management, including partner remittance
• Operationalize the business with an in-house dashboard that includes KPIs that measure success
• Collaborate with Engineering, Privacy, Legal, and Product teams to embed data management practices into product development and operations
• Proactively monitor data-related risks and ensure strong internal controls and mitigations are in place
• Oversee daily operations of data governance, including metadata management, data access protocols, archiving and optimization of the data management tech stack

Data Governance & Strategy

• Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of enterprise-wide data governance practices
• Ensure consistent data quality, integrity, classification, access controls, and lifecycle management
• Foster a data stewardship culture by working with internal teams to ensure accountability for data ownership
• Champion the ethical use of data and drive practices that balance accessibility, privacy, and compliance
  

Qualifications:

• 8–10 years of experience in data analytics, management and 3+ years of people leadership experience
• Proven track record of establishing standards for data teams and developing individual talent
• Strong technical skills, including SQL, data modeling, and familiarity with data engineering tools (e.g., dbt, Spark, Airflow)
• Strong knowledge of data quality, metadata, and governance frameworks
• Experience translating business needs into scalable data solutions
• A collaborative mindset and comfort working across diverse stakeholder groups
• Exceptional communication and change management skills
• Passion for purpose-driven work and the mission of reducing food waste
