About the Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.
We’re seeking a Director of Competitive Intelligence to join our global Sales Engineering organization. This role will play a critical part in driving our competitive advantage by developing and executing on a comprehensive strategy for differentiating Fivetran products and solutions from our competitors. You will be responsible for providing deep competitive insights to inform product roadmap development, a curated curriculum of enablement content that scales to our global organization, and for working closely with sales and marketing on campaigns. You will also work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that Fivetran messaging and positioning effectively highlights our unique value proposition in a way that resonates with our target audience.

What You’ll Do
- Be prospect facing to educate organizations undergoing active evaluations on the value of Fivetran
- Develop and implement a comprehensive competitive differentiation strategy, including:
- Conducting in-depth analysis of competitor products, pricing, and marketing strategies

- Identifying key strengths and weaknesses of Fivetran products compared to competitors
- Developing messaging and positioning that clearly articulates Fivetran’s unique value proposition
- Creating competitive battlecards and other sales enablement materials
- Informing our standardized demonstration scripts and presentations to most accurately communicate Fivetran’s value over its competitors
- Staying close to active opportunities to evaluate what is working in the field
- Partner with product management and marketing to ensure consistent channel messaging, develop sales plays, and inform product roadmap development to drive product differentiation
- Develop and deliver a competitive training curriculum for our GTM organization alongside our enablement organization and competitive champions teams
- Work closely with our Partner organization to ensure our business partners understand best practices in positioning Fivetran
- Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies, competitive developments, and trends in our industry
- Represent Fivetran as needed with analysts (Gartner, Forrester) as they undergo market analysis
- Analyze closed won/loss trends within the business
Skills We’re Looking For
- 10+ years in database technologies, sales engineering, competitive intelligence or related technical field
- Strong technical background covering Enterprise database solutions, Cloud/Hybrid/On-premise data infrastructure, or existing data replication technologies
- Hands on keyboard capabilities for creating effective demonstrations, scripts, and videos
- Deep understanding of modern data analytics technologies, including cloud data warehouses, transformation tooling, data catalogs, and BI tools
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with a keen ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Optional Bonus Skills
- Hands on experience with Enterprise Database solutions (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2)
- Hands on experience with other data replication or ETL tools
- Understanding of the power of Analytics for driving decision making
