About the Role
We’re now looking to deepen our presence in Central America, and we need a strong regional leader to 10X each of these markets. As General Manager for Central America, you’ll be responsible for driving growth and building a winning presence in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. You’ll work cross-functionally with our global teams — growth, marketing, operations, product, and business development — to ensure our remittance product is the best in the market across UX, reliability, and service. You will test your influencing skills to the max! The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within the Central American region, and ideally, will have a robust background in the fintech, remittances, and/or banking sector. This role is based in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, México, or Miami, FL. Upon hitting a few milestones, we will expect you to build your team to achieve top results.
Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute go-to-market plans for Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador with a clear focus on user acquisition and market penetration.
- Identify and prioritize growth opportunities by understanding customer behavior, market dynamics, competition, and regulatory context.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as the regional owner and point person for growth, operations, and product feedback.
- Collaborate with Growth and Marketing to localize campaigns and drive channel performance.
- Coordinate with Product and Engineering to surface and prioritize local needs for product upgrades.
- Support BD in forging partnerships with local banks, cash pickup networks, and mobile wallets.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the remittance service in each country, including issue resolution, compliance coordination, and support processes.
- Own KPIs around market share, conversion, retention, service uptime, customer satisfaction, disbursement completions, and delivery times.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, vendors, partners, and customers.
- Serve as the local spokesperson and ambassador for the company in the region.
Financial Oversight
- Manage budgets, control expenditures, and ensure the financial health of the Central American ops.
- Achieve revenue and margin targets and optimize profitability.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all operations comply with local regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
Requirements
Must-have
- 10+ years of professional experience in consumer-facing tech-enabled businesses, ideally fintech, remittances, financial services, and deep familiarity with the Central American ecosystem—user behavior, competition, and payment infrastructure.
- Strong track record of launching or scaling consumer-facing products or services in the region.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence global teams.
- Strong analytical skills, including deep understanding of LTV/CAC dynamics, full-funnel metrics, and financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Comfort working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Demonstrated capability in developing and implementing successful business strategies that drive growth and profitability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities in both Spanish and English.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working in a high-growth startup or multinational fintech.
- Strong network of contacts in Central American financial institutions, regulators, and payment providers.
- Background in business development, strategy, or regional operations leadership.
- These are the applicable requisites, although equivalent competencies in any of the above will also be considered.
