Would you love to improve how companies handle their finances through data? We’re looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our Data Ops team at Factorial, focusing on finance operations.

🎯 Finance & Data Ops: What’s the mission?

• Our Data Ops team empowers Factorial through data-driven solutions, providing ingestion services (SaaS APIs, DBs, streams), storage capabilities (Data Lake, Stream Storage), and cataloging (Atlan), among other tools.

• As a Junior Data Engineer, you’ll support initiatives tied to our finance operations. In your first month, you’ll help implement a key pipeline using Workato, ensuring that financial data flows seamlessly across our internal systems.

• You’ll collaborate closely with more senior team members, including a Staff Data Engineer, to learn best practices and grow your technical skills.

🦸 The role

• Be part of a growing Engineering team of 150+ product developers, delivering data-driven finance solutions that help thousands of Factorial customers make smarter decisions.

• Work hand-in-hand with Data Ops and Finance teams to integrate data from various finance sources, design reliable data flows, and optimize our financial analytics.

• Collaborate with stakeholders, from finance managers to product teams, translating monitoring and analytics needs into actionable deliverables. You’ll have plenty of support as you learn the ropes!

📚 Our stack & the day-to-day

• Although we predominantly use programming tools like SQL, Python and Scala, during your first months you’ll also have the chance to start with low-code tools like Workato, Zapier and similar automation tools.

• Assist in maintaining our Lakehouse components in both batch and streaming contexts, with guidance from your teammates.

• Participate in code reviews, short development cycles in ephemeral dev environments, and adopt a GitOps-driven mindset with CI/CD best practices.

• Learn by doing, failing, and iterating fast — and have the support of an experienced Staff Data Engineer who’s eager to mentor you.

🦶 Your first steps at Factorial

• Read a lot: Discover Factorial’s product, customers, and current Data Ops practices, specifically around finance operations.

• Learn a lot: Pair with team members to gain insight into their data challenges—particularly those involving payments, transactions, and billing.

• Code a lot: Contribute to small tasks and quick wins, helping develop and refine Workato-based pipelines that power our financial data workflows.

• Fail a lot: Experiment freely; feel comfortable making mistakes as part of your growth journey.

• Talk a lot: Engage in team meetings and stakeholder calls to fully understand how your work in data can make a difference.

🧠 What we’d love to see in your background

• No formal background required — just enthusiasm for data, willingness to learn, and a passion for problem-solving.

• Interest in automation tools (Workato, Zapier, or similar) — any hands-on experience is a plus.

• Curiosity to explore streaming frameworks (Kafka, Spark) and functional programming languages (Scala or other JVM languages) in the future.

• Excitement about data governance, discoverability, and compliance.

• A user-centric mindset, eager to deliver solutions that truly solve real-world finance and analytics needs.

• Comfortable working in English and collaborating with distributed teams.

🕵️‍♂️ The hiring process

• First conversation with a Manager: a mix of human and technical topics, to discuss how we can learn and work together, review our Engineering Rubrics (they’re open!), and talk about salary range.

• Tech interview with Factorial engineers: We’ll look at a simple scenario or mini-challenge. We care about how you solve problems and learn, not just lines of code.

• Final coffee-chat with our CFO to understand Factorial’s culture, vision, and how finance operations tie into everything we do.

• All interviews are remote, using video conferencing tools!
