Hello! 👋🏽

At Factorial, we're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to help us tackle our domain's challenges and ensure our product development reaches the next level. We want someone who enjoys making a real impact by working closely with the business.

The Engineering team at large

At Factorial, we have a team of over 150 full-stack developers. We look for curious, proactive people with good soft and communication skills. The last one is the key in a distributed company.

We don’t focus on a long list of skills and technologies. While our stack is Ruby on Rails for the backend and React/React Native for the clients, proficiency in these is not mandatory. We believe that good aptitudes and a hunger for learning work best.

The Role

As an Engineering Manager of the CIAM team (Customer Identity and Access Management), you will be responsible for leading the development of your team while also being accountable for the health and growth of your product.

About you

  • You have managed people before and have experience guiding engineers to successful careers (ideally even above you!).
  • You have actively participated in hiring processes, bringing top talent to the organization.
  • You are comfortable cooperating with other teams and building the fundamentals of service.
  • When you disagree with a peer, you engage in a Socratic exchange, prioritizing finding a solution over winning arguments. You convince or get convinced.
  • You have 5+ years of experience working as a full-stack developer or in a similar position.
  • You have 3+ years of experience leading teams.
  • You have a deep understanding of APIs (REST, GraphQL, and similar) and can create integrations with other backend systems.
  • You believe that consistency, performance, quality, and scalability are more than buzzwords and have a deep real meaning that needs to translate into products and services.
  • You can't imagine yourself not writing code at all.
  • Having IAM, AuthN, AuthZ knowledge is a plus

At Factorial we don't evaluate you by years of experience but by your knowledge and skills

We use our Career Path with a rubric framework where we define what is expected for each experience level and skill. This framework allows you to know your current level and what you need to keep growing. We love transparency, so our Career Path includes the salaries for each level, which we share during the first interview to ensure alignment.

For this position, the starting annual gross salary is 71,300€, regardless of your location. This includes a base salary of 62,000€ and a variable pay of up to 9,300€ (paid proporcional each quarter), depending on the company's goals and your performance.

What will work be like?

  • You will start onboarding with a buddy who will guide you through some non-critical tasks to get used to the codebase.
  • You will learn about the business, the whole customer journey, and start working with the team to draft a roadmap.
  • You will participate in weekly meetings with your team to discuss what to work on next and propose new ideas.
  • You will participate in reviewing the RFCs your team produces, giving feedback, and proposing alternatives to achieve the team's goals.
  • You will hire team members as needed, ensuring we bring in talented and good-hearted individuals.
  • You will constantly think about how to improve your team and processes.
  • You will engage in weekly 1:1s, focusing on the development and well-being of team members.
  • You will engage with other engineering managers to coordinate initiatives that impact several teams.
  • You will convince or get convinced. (You will heard this motto a lot).

  • High growth, multicultural, and friendly environment 🤝🏽

The hiring process

If you apply, here’s what to expect:

  1. A first conversation with Raquel, our People Business Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level.
  2. A second conversation with the team’s engineering director. Similarly to the first one, this is about making sure you are a fit and can work together.
  3. A tech interview with three Factorial engineers: This will be a conversation about technology, not an exam or code review. We’ll ask you to send us a piece of code you’ve written recently and are happy with, to use as a basis for the conversation. If you don’t have anything, we’ll share some specifications for you to build, but the focus will be on how you think, not the exact code.
  4. And that’s it! Feel free to request any other conversations you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time in the process.

The whole process is remote, using videoconferencing tools!
