Intern, Research Biology (Neuroscience)
Eikon Therapeutics
Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.
Position
This 10-week summer internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the Neuroscience Research function in a collaborative, fast-paced drug discovery environment located in New York office. The Research Intern - Neuroscience will support early-stage research programs focused on cellular models used to advance neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease research.
In this role, you will gain exposure to the neuroscience drug discovery process while working alongside scientists supporting human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) model development and downstream applications. This internship is designed to provide practical laboratory training in stem cell culture, neuronal differentiation, and molecular and cellular biology techniques that support translational neuroscience research.
About You
You are passionate about neuroscience and cellular biology and are excited to gain hands-on laboratory experience supporting drug discovery research. You are detail-oriented, curious, and motivated to learn advanced cell culture and molecular biology techniques. You enjoy working on the bench, maintaining organized experimental records, and collaborating with cross-functional research teams to advance scientific programs.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain and culture human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) under the guidance of experienced scientists.
- Support differentiation of hiPSCs into dopaminergic neurons and utilize fundamental molecular and cellular biology techniques to QC differentiated neurons.
- Perform routine laboratory procedures including cell culture maintenance, passaging, freezing, thawing, and quality control assessments.
- Implement basic scientific techniques to investigate disease mechanisms that support Parkinsons disease drug discovery.
- Analyze and summarize experimental data using appropriate software and analytical tools.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in accordance with research best practices.
- Under the guidance of scientists, learn to critically read scientific literature, adopt experimental protocols in the lab, participate in team meetings, and contribute to scientific discussions.
- Present internship project outcomes and key learnings.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's or graduate-level degree in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life sciences discipline.
- Completed at least three years of undergraduate coursework.
- Must be enrolled in school during the internship program.
- Demonstrated experience with mammalian tissue or cell culture.
- Completion of coursework in Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized laboratory documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing individual laboratory responsibilities.
- Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) during core business hours for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer internship program.
- Prior wet-lab research experience is preferred.
- Experience with stem cell culture, including iPSC culture, is strongly preferred.
- Coursework or exposure to stem cell biology is preferred.
The expected hourly pay range for this role is $36 - $48/hour. Placement within this range is determined based on education level.
