Junior QA Engineer - Backend & Support Focus (UK)

We’re looking for a Junior QA Engineer to join our growing distributed Engineering team.
You’ll work closely with our Development and Support teams to ensure the quality and stability of several core web applications and tools used across the company as well as our external partners and customers.

While the core focus of the role is on quality assurance - testing, validating, and improving our systems - it will also involve technical and user support responsibilities, such as triaging, investigating, and resolving issues reported by internal and external users.

This blend makes the role ideal for someone who’s passionate about testing, curious about how systems work behind the scenes, and enjoys problem-solving and assisting users. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your analytical skills both in structured QA processes and in real-world troubleshooting, developing a deep understanding of how our applications are used day to day.

You’ll help maintain and expand our test coverage, contribute to clear, actionable documentation, and play a key role in improving communication between Support, Product, and Engineering. As our products evolve, you’ll also help shape a scalable QA foundation and have the chance to grow into more advanced backend or automation testing responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform manual and exploratory testing across multiple web applications, including backend APIs, admin dashboards, and data-driven tools.
  • Execute and document API tests using tools such as Postman or Swagger, and validate backend data integrity with basic SQL queries (SELECT, JOIN, filters).
  • Collaborate directly with development engineers to understand new features, provide early QA feedback, and contribute to implementation and design discussions.
  • Investigate and triage issues reported by internal and external users - reproducing, diagnosing, and prioritizing bugs while communicating findings clearly to developers and support teams.
  • Support smooth releases by maintaining regression and smoke test suites, participating in pre-deployment test cycles, and collaborating across time zones (London ↔ LA).
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of QA processes, documentation, and knowledge bases, including user guides, FAQs, and internal support materials.
  • (Optional but encouraged) Learn and contribute to our C# + Playwright automation testing framework for end-to-end coverage.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in QA, support engineering, or software testing (internships or entry-level roles also welcome).
  • Understanding of software testing principles, defect lifecycle, and QA best practices.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Insomnia, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of SQL (basic queries, joins, filters).
  • Basic knowledge of any programming language (C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset - ability to investigate issues, not just report them.
  • Clear, professional communication skills, especially when working with distributed teams and internal users.
  • Experience communicating with users to troubleshoot and clarify issues.
  • Comfortable translating technical findings into clear, actionable information for non-technical users.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, small-team environment where priorities may shift quickly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, etc.).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or test execution in build systems (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.).
  • Prior technical support or Helpdesk experience - understanding how to triage tickets, communicate with non-technical users, and escalate effectively.
  • Familiarity with RESTful API design, JSON responses, and HTTP status codes.

Why Join Us

At EIKON Group, we operate at the intersection of media, technology, and innovation, supporting global digital cinema and media workflows. As part of our Development team, you’ll gain firsthand insight into how modern media pipelines run behind the scenes and help build the tools that power content localization, mastering, and delivery worldwide.

You’ll be part of a close, collaborative team where your ideas directly shape how we test, automate, and improve our applications. Whether designing smarter regression tests or developing automation for complex edge cases, you’ll see your impact immediately.

We’re actively expanding our automation suite using C# + Playwright, giving you the chance to grow alongside cutting-edge test frameworks.

If you’re curious, self-driven, and love learning by doing, this is a place where your work will genuinely make a difference.

Tech Snapshot

  • Automation: C# (.NET Core), Playwright, NUnit
  • API Testing: Postman, Swagger
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • Version Control: GitLab
  • Runtime: Docker, Linux, AWS

Location
This position is based at our Soho, London office, and will be working closely with our Los Angeles engineering team. The role will be office-based, as you’ll be collaborating directly with in-office teams to understand workflows, user interactions and system behaviour first-hand.

Working Hours
