Archivist (UK)

We are seeking an organized, technically minded Archivist to manage the long-term storage, movement, and integrity of film and broadcast media assets. This role is central to maintaining our internal archive, ensuring deliverables are properly ingested, validated, catalogued, and stored—both on spinning disk systems and LTO tape. You will help shape and maintain efficient workflows that support production, post-production, and operational teams.

The ideal candidate combines strong media-archive knowledge with hands-on experience in TAR/LTFS workflows, data management, and light command-line operations. Attention to detail and a passion for preserving high-value media assets is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Media Asset Management

  • Ingest, catalogue, and maintain metadata for film, TV, and broadcast deliverables.
  • Verify file integrity using checksums (MD5, SHA-256) and internal validation tools.
  • Maintain logical asset structures, versioning practices, and delivery documentation.

LTO Tape & Archive Operations

  • Perform LTO tape creation, duplication, verification, and restoration using LTFS or other tape-based systems.
  • Track tape inventory, barcode records, and off-site storage rotations.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to tape mounts, indexing, and drive hardware.

Workflow Development & Optimization

  • Maintain consistent internal workflows for ingest, archive, retrieval, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with engineering and post-production to improve speed, reliability, and automation.
  • Document processes and maintain archival SOPs, runbooks, and best-practice guidelines.

Technical & CLI Responsibilities

  • Use command-line tools for checksum generation, file movement, LTFS operations, and automation tasks.
  • Support scripting-assisted workflows (bash, Python, or similar).
  • Assist in troubleshooting storage, permission, or network-related issues.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate with production, editorial, QC, and operations teams to ensure timely asset hand-offs.
  • Provide guidance on archival standards, naming conventions, and delivery compliance.
  • Assist in training staff on archive procedures and system use.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Experience with media archiving, post-production workflows, or broadcast deliverables.
  • Hands-on experience with LTO tape workflows (LTFS or TAR).
  • Comfortable using Linux/Unix command line for core tasks (copying, checksums, logs, LTFS mounts).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with large volumes of media data.
  • Understanding of common media formats (ProRes, DNxHD, WAV, IMF, MXF, camera RAW).
  • Ability to troubleshoot file-based workflow issues quickly and independently.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with checksum tools, automation frameworks, or scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of AWS S3, cloud storage, or hybrid archive strategies.
  • Understanding of network storage (NAS/SAN), permissions, and file-system concepts.

The role will be based at our Soho, London premise. Working hours are 9:30am to 6:00pm; however, the candidate should be willing to work outside of these hours based on business requirements.

Candidates must be authorised to work in the UK, please note we are unable to sponsor, or take over the sponsorship, of any employee VISAs at this time.
