Job Description

A bit about this role:

We are seeking a Director of Product Design to join our small, senior, and highly leveraged Product Design team. This role will own the interaction design for our Member Portal (desktop, mobile web, iPhone, and Android) AND Devoted Medical (our in-house medical group of doctors, NPs, pharmacists, etc), and the connective tissue between them.

This is a role of significant scope and impact—you'll be shaping the digital experience for both the members we serve and the clinicians who care for them. This is not a specialist role; we need a versatile design leader who can independently navigate the full spectrum of UX work, from foundational research to detailed implementation, with an emphasis on speed, pragmatism, and collaboration.

You'll create digital experiences that make our members feel known and cared for, and enable our clinical teams to deliver exceptional care—all within the constraints of our highly-regulated and complex business. You'll lean in with AI and LLM interactions, conversational design, and modern healthcare workflows.

The right person leads other leaders—you'll walk into rooms with senior stakeholders and be seen as a peer and trusted advisor. You partner closely with our Member Experience and Devoted Medical leadership to define and implement digital experiences that equal or surpass our other touchpoints.

Responsibilities and Impact will include:

  • Lead strategic design for member and clinician-facing products as a cohesive ecosystem, align cross‑functional leadership, and independently identify high‑impact design opportunities that improve business results, clinical outcomes, and user satisfaction.

  • Collaborate at speed with engineering, product, operations, and clinical leadership to define implementable solutions that meet user, business, clinical, and regulatory needs with keen attention to detail in a hyper-compliant healthcare environment

  • Design with human behavior and psychology in mind —making simple things feel simple and complex workflows feel possible, with emphasis on multi-device interaction design (including native apps) and continuous validation through research and testing

  • Create and evolve design systems, patterns, and AI-first interaction models that scale across both member and clinical experiences—know when existing patterns achieve quick wins, and when new, reusable patterns are needed

This position is remote with east coast hours and requires travel 2-3 times per year.

Required skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of digital product design experience with expert proficiency in multiple areas of product design (UI, IA, research, visual design, etc.)

  • 2+ years of healthcare tech experience

  • Native mobile app, multi-platform design experience (iOS and Android)

  • Exceptional ability to influence C-suite and senior stakeholders, convince leaders to adopt new directions, and lead rooms full of other leaders

  • Technical mindset - comfort collaborating with engineering, data science, and other technical roles. Ability to contribute to discussions around entity relationships and designing for data-rich workflows

  • Strong online portfolio demonstrating sophisticated, multi-platform healthcare or similarly complex products with measurable impact and visual polish

  • Track record of designing at scope—managing multiple product areas simultaneously while maintaining quality and cohesion

  • Demonstrated speed, flexibility, and collaborative leadership in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to command the room and tailor messaging to clinical, technical, and executive audiences

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience designing clinical workflow tools or EHR-adjacent products

  • Deep familiarity with accessibility standards and implementation (508, WCAG, etc.)

  • Experience designing for multiple spoken languages
