The Role
We are seeking a Director of Commercial Legal Affairs to join Crescendo’s commercial legal function and support our continued global expansion. In this role, you will join the commercial legal strategy across North America, Europe, and other key jurisdictions, partnering with executive stakeholders to scale our AI-powered services model while navigating complex regulatory, privacy, and data governance landscapes.
You will serve as a critical partner to GTM, InfoSec, Product, and executive leadership—ensuring enterprise deal velocity, contract compliance, and AI-aligned legal innovation. This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic, execution-oriented legal leader who brings deep cross-border contracting expertise, a strong understanding of AI/data frameworks, and a passion for driving impact at the forefront of tech and customer experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Strategic Leadership & Business Enablement
- Responsible for the global commercial legal function, aligning legal strategy with business objectives to support revenue growth and customer success in regulated and high-growth markets.
- Serve as a senior legal advisor to Sales, Customer Success, and Executive teams on commercial transactions, partnerships, and go-to-market initiatives.
- Enterprise Contracting & Negotiation
- Oversee the negotiation and execution of complex enterprise agreements including MSAs, SaaS agreements, AI/ML, services contracts, and DPAs across global regions.
- Resolve escalations and drive creative solutions that balance business needs with regulatory requirements.
- AI, Data, and Privacy Governance
- Provide strategic counsel on legal issues related to AI/ML deployment, data usage rights, model outputs, and emerging AI regulations.
- Partner with InfoSec and Compliance to ensure contracts reflect security standards (ISO, SOC 2) and privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, Schrems II, etc.).
- Commercial Infrastructure & Operational Scale
- Develop global legal infrastructure including contract templates, negotiation playbooks, escalation protocols, and enablement for internal stakeholders.
- Implement scalable processes and systems that streamline legal review while mitigating risk.
- Global Expansion Support
- Structure and advise on international partnerships, distribution models, reseller agreements, and cross-border data transfers to support Crescendo’s global footprint (LATAM, APAC, EU, U.S.).
- Stay ahead of evolving digital service laws and AI regulations globally, proactively advising leadership on implications and strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Training
- Act as a key strategic partner to Product, Engineering, Marketing, and People teams—translating legal complexity into business clarity.
- Champion legal excellence while supporting Crescendo’s culture of innovation, velocity, and customer obsession.
- Providing training and guidance to internal teams on privacy, AI governance, and data protection best practices
What We Expect From You:
Legal Experience & Domain Expertise
- 10+ years of legal experience, with at least 8 years of legal experience focused on commercial contracting, privacy and global legal operations within tech or AI-driven companies (1+ years of AI governance is a plus).
- Deep knowledge of U.S. and EU commercial and privacy law and AI Laws (EU AI Act, emerging US AI regulations,etc)
- Extensive experience negotiating enterprise SaaS, privacy and AI-related contractual agreements.
- Effective at working across departments, including product, engineering, finance and compliance, to embed legal best practices seamlessly.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment, adjusting strategies in real-time while maintaining legal integrity.
