Mechanical Engineer (University Grad)
Collaborative Robotics
Are you excited to bring your mechanical designs to life? Do you dream of ways to achieve maximum capability with the simplest mechanical designs?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design of our novel cobot. This role is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we scale to initial builds and production cobots. The opportunity will be equal parts high level and creative while still very technical and detail-oriented. You will collaborate closely with system architects, electrical engineers, industrial designers, and the supply chain team.
Collaborative Robotics is a team of innovators and builders redefining the future of human-robot interaction. We are working to create a world where robots are a trusted extension of your surroundings. They work, adapt, and react around you, not the other way around.
This role is located onsite at our Santa Clara, CA headquarters.
Applicants must graduate prior to August 2025 to be eligible for this role. The application deadline for this role is January 1st, 2025. Interviews will take place mid-January 2025, for Summer 2025 start dates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with our hardware, software, simulation, and controls/perception teams to ensure our cobot design meets all customer and engineering requirements.
- Assist in working with component suppliers, machine shops, build technicians, and partner engineering functions to bring designs to life in physical systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Proficiency in Mechanical CAD software (Solidworks preferred).
- Basic knowledge of finite element analysis, simulations, 2D drawings, design for assembly, and design for manufacturing.
- Completed at least one mechanical engineering internship.
- Hands-on experience with industrial 3D printers, mills, lathes, or laser cutters for prototyping is a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic start-up environment.
- Willingness to occasionally travel up to 10%.
- Must have and maintain US work authorization.
- Must be willing and able to start work in Summer 2025.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more internships in Mechanical Engineering.
- Project experience in mechanical design, robotics, or similar fields.
- Experience with designing motion control systems with sensors, actuators, motors, and complex mechanisms.
- Familiarity with failure avoidance methods, including DFMEA/PFMEA and fault tree analysis.
- Basic understanding of reliability and quality processes.
- Knowledge of designing lightweight, stiff, mobile structures.
- Exposure to simulating dynamic/kinematic models alongside FEA analysis for structures.
The base salary range for this position is $130,000-$140,000 annually plus equity and comprehensive benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in Santa Clara, CA.
