Senior Data Engineer (Ingeniero de Datos Senior) - Mexico City (Hybrid)

What you'll do

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering Team. In this role, you will be the architect and builder of the robust data infrastructure that powers Clara’s analytics, reporting, and emerging AI capabilities. You will work at the intersection of complex banking systems and modern financial technology, ensuring our data-driven decision-making is powered by high-quality, scalable, and reliable pipelines.

  • Data Pipeline Engineering: Build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines using Databricks, Spark, and Kafka, following a lakehouse architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to ensure data reliability and scalability.

  • AI-Ready Infrastructure: Design feature pipelines and data scaffolding to enable ML model training and AI applications, creating reusable frameworks that accelerate development across the organization.

  • Development Excellence: Leverage AI tools like Github Copilot to increase productivity, while implementing CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and validation for all data assets.

  • Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with Data Scientists and Analysts to optimize data models, lead architectural discussions, and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pair programming.

  • Performance Optimization: Master complex data flows including CDC processes and API integrations, optimizing query performance for high-stakes financial reporting and real-time dashboards.

Who you are

“We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.”

Must haves

  • Working proficiency in English and Spanish.

  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL with strong performance optimization skills.

  • Deep experience with Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) and lakehouse architectures.

  • Proven experience building complex ETL/ELT pipelines using orchestration tools like Airflow or AWS Glue.

  • Strong background in CI/CD and Github workflows to maintain high engineering standards.

  • Experience or strong interest in using AI tools to automate workflows and accelerate development velocity.

  • Adaptability to fast-changing environments and a proven track record of execution in senior technical roles.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with distributed teams.

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with N8N or other automation platforms for data workflows.

  • Experience with feature stores or ML data infrastructure (e.g., Databricks Feature Store).

  • Knowledge of LLM application patterns, such as RAG or vector databases.

  • Proficiency in Scala or advanced analytical skills using Python.

  • A good sense of humor.

Clara’s Hybrid Policy

Claridians in a hybrid mode split their time between working from the office, talking to or visiting customers, or working from home. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for each individual and team.

We don't enforce a minimum number of days for most roles, but you're expected to spend time at the office organically, and be at the office most days during your ramp-up or when required by your leader.
