About the Role:

At Chief, we believe that how we work is just as important as what we achieve. The Senior Director, People will play a key leadership role in shaping an inclusive, and inspiring employee experience that supports our teams through change, growth, and everything in between. Reporting to the Chief Diversity & People Officer (CDPO), this role is perfect for a strategic doer—someone who can think big and act small, zooming out to design forward-looking programs while rolling up their sleeves to get the details right. You’ll oversee the full employee lifecycle and all core HR functions, including Talent Acquisition, HR Systems & Processes, Compensation & Benefits, Performance Management, Organizational Design & Headcount Planning, Employee Relations, Compliance, Payroll, and people leader and team member Growth & Development.

This is a hands-on leadership role with deep operational scope and people-centered impact. You’ll partner with the Executive and Leadership Teams in addition to people leaders across the organization to design programs that reflect our values, anticipate team needs, and evolve with the business. You’ll also be a key steward of our inclusive culture—ensuring our processes are equitable, our policies are just, and our people feel heard, supported, and empowered.

What you’ll do:

  • HR Strategy & Operations:
Partner with the CDPO to shape and implement people strategies aligned with evolving business objectives and cultural aspirations. Own day-to-day HR operations– ensuring experiences across the employee lifecycle are consistent, compliant, and human.

  • Employee Lifecycle Ownership:
Oversee the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding through performance management, employee relations, growth, mobility and onboarding. Build and evolve processes that are inclusive, clear, and scalable.

  • People Leader & Team Member Development:
Provide tools and resources, and coaching and guidance to people leaders to strengthen people management, support team development and close skill gaps. Design and deliver relevant learning and growth programs that center inclusion, curiosity and shared accountability for success.

  • Total Rewards & Benefits:
Own our compensation and benefits strategy and philosophy to ensure it’s market aligned, values-driven and meets the diverse needs of our team. Maintain vendor relationships and partner with finance and CPO on compensation planning and budgeting.

  • Culture, Inclusion & Engagement:
Lead engagement initiatives that reflect who we are and who we want to be–spanning inclusive feedback loops (surveys, exit interviews, etc.), rituals, recognition programs, and DEI efforts and moments of connection. Support a healthy, values-aligned culture through thoughtful, data-informed initiatives.

  • Compliance & Employee Relations:
Maintain policies, practices, and processes that align with employment law and reflect our values. Handle employee relations matters with care, fairness, and discretion—centering psychological safety and mutual respect.

  • HR Systems & Processes:
Own and optimize our core HR systems and processes to ensure efficient and user-friendly operations. Partner with IT, Finance, and external vendors to streamline operations and reduce friction.

  • Data & Reporting:
Track and analyze key HR metrics to guide decision-making and proactively identify areas for continuous improvement. Use data to tell stories, uncover inequities, and guide team-level interventions.

  • Team Leadership & Management:
Lead and grow a high-performing People team across multiple areas including HR operations, creating a culture of trust, inclusion and continuous learning within the People team. Model people-first leadership across the organization and build internal capability by empowering others.

What you’ve done and enjoy doing:

  • Scaled people programs and infrastructure in early- to mid-stage environments with care and creativity and operational rigor

  • Deep, hands-on HR expertise across all core functions—including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and total rewards

  • Brought strategic thinking and entrepreneurial execution to ambiguous fast-changing environments.

  • Communicated with empathy, clarity and authenticity–building trust across all levels of the organization

  • Fostered inclusive, high-accountability cultures grounded in continuous learning

  • Designed and led HR programs that drive both team impact and business outcomes

  • Partnered credibly with executives to influence decisions and shape organizational growth

  • Solved complex people challenges with creativity, iteration and human-centered mindset

  • Thrived under pressure, managing competing priorities with focus and precision

  • Use data and insights to drive action, improve systems and enhance the employee experience
