About Charm
Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.
Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we’ve scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Kansas. Join us in 2025 as we work toward putting 10,000 tons of carbon back underground!
We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

  • We’re looking for a hands-on electrical engineer to join our pyrolysis engineering team in Colorado.
  • You’ll be responsible for the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of control boxes to make our novel pyrolysis hardware function as intended.
  • You’re very familiar with 24V through 480V circuit design, and have a keen eye for electrical safety.
  • If you’re excited to contribute to a cross functional, mission-driven team and love to get prototypical hardware up and running, we want to hear from you!

Your Responsibilities

  • Your primary responsibility is working with a group of cross-functional engineers to help them make their designs come to life through control cabinet design, build, and installation.
  • You’ll take load lists and sensor counts, and turn that into schematics and physical hardware. You’ll go through all steps of circuit design, component selection, and physical install and wiring. You’ll then work alongside the team to install the control boxes and terminate field wiring, and check that everything functions as expected.
  • You’ll troubleshoot electrical circuits as needed, not stopping until you’re satisfied with how they perform.
  • You’ll assist, as needed, in testing the physical hardware to develop an intuition for the process and system we’re building, which will make you an integral part of the design team going forward.

You Bring

  • 4 years or more of Electrical, Electronics or Controls Engineering (or similar) professional experience.
  • Excitement for and experience building rapid prototypes and getting your hands dirty alongside a cross functional team.
  • Proven experience in designing automation control cabinets (ideally using 480V) and constructing cable assemblies. This includes understanding of automation control systems, motor control principles, electrical circuit design, and industrial sensors.
  • Familiarity with selecting control cabinet components, including motor controllers, VFDs, circuit breakers, and industrial sensors based on project requirements.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to high-power systems
  • Experience with electrical schematic capture tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot control systems and sensor-related issues.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl in awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Have a proactive, professional and “can do” attitude.
  • Passionate about contributing to our mission and growing the company.

Bonus (but not required)

  • Familiarity with programming languages for PLC systems, such as ladder logic or structured text
