About Charm
Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.
Our carbon removal pathway took off in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. Since then we’ve scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, over a hundred employees, and now have three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Kansas. Come join us in 2024 as we aim to become one of the first companies to put 10,000 tons of carbon back underground!
We're looking to expand our team of ambitious creative and hands-on forward-thinking humans. We value psychological safety and collaboration. We take calculated risks and don't sweep mistakes under the rug; instead, we pin them to the wall and learn from them. We value that everyone’s unique backgrounds and perspectives shape their work. We encourage you to read our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!
About the Role
As Charm begins to deliver thousands of tons of carbon dioxide removal annually, we need a highly analytical individual to forecast Charm’s operational capacity, identify and then work with the team to eliminate bottlenecks. In this role, you’ll chart the course to becoming a gigaton-scale carbon dioxide removal operation. This role reports to the Head of Operations and will be expected to work with some third parties and multiple teams within Charm including sourcing & supply chain, pyrolyzer operations, injection operations, transportation & logistics, facilities, engineering and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with teammates on operations to sequester 10,000+ tons of carbon dioxide removal in 2024 and gigatons in years to come. Manage the forecasting of Charm’s carbon dioxide removal capacity taking into account production, storage, transportation and logistics, and injection capacity. Write a weekly pace report to keep key internal stakeholders informed.
  • Establish a rolling 18-month supply and demand planning process. Drive clear accountability amongst stakeholders within Charm. Highlight key risks and dive into problem solving where necessary. For example, a longer-than-expected round trip duration on our railcar fleet could mean that we are not maximizing utilization of injection assets. The individual in this role will be expected to jump into troubleshooting with Charm’s transportation & logistics supply chain manager. On the other end of the spectrum, understanding demand through government-funded projects or regulated markets is difficult to predict but it needs to be accounted for in the demand planning process.
  • Based on existing cost performance, define a gross margin goal for future years. Work with internal stakeholders (operations leadership team, supply chain managers) to chart the course to successful execution of the gross margin goal.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with Excel / Google Sheets
  • Outstanding analytical, presentation, and communication (written, verbal) skills
  • Very high communication bandwidth over email, Slack, phone, Google docs, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals with a wide range of experience and knowledge
  • Have a proactive, professional and “can do” attitude
  • A demonstrated passion for contributing to our mission
  • Comfortable with traveling 25% of the time

Bonus (but not required):

  • Experience at a hardware company scaling up
  • Experience in transportation, manufacturing, chemical plants or agricultural operations
