Job Summary:

The Mechanical Controller will support the Site Production Manager in a busy and demanding production site focusing on working around tight deadlines to ensure customer requirements are being maintained and standards are met. You will be required to assist with production excellence for the mechanical teams, adhering to company targets and objectives.

You will be someone that enjoys working in a fast paced environment with a hands on attitude and at heart with a data-driven mindset, sharing fresh ideas for how to apply best practice to improve efficiency by reducing operating costs while increasing productivity.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide leadership to your own team in a fast paced operational environment with the ability to understand people, their skills and motivations. Build good relationships with your immediate and wider team, achieving results through the efforts of others as well as your own.
  • Responsible for the line management and coordination of a team of specialists within your department, effective allocation of workflow to various skill sets within your team and focussing on the output of your department.
  • Managing a productive team including monitoring sickness, absence along with performing performance reviews and highlighting training needs to drive capability. In addition you will be supporting the Production Manager and Site Operations Manager to achieve overall site objectives.
  • Supporting the Production Manager in overseeing the production process to ensure that excellent standards of work are maintained at all times, whilst assessing quality, productivity, encouraging and improving team performance by setting an example of standards of work and behaviour.
  • Work closely with other department leaders on the site, identifying opportunities for improvements across the site, optimising efficiency and achieving the highest possible throughput of vehicles. Ensuring that a high level of quality standards are achieved to minimise reworks and complaints.
  • Work closely with the training team to identify and support employee training and development plans.
  • Ensure all Vehicle Technicians have a thorough understanding of targets and provide effective communication to the teams.
  • Support in overseeing the production process to ensure vehicles remain on schedule, highlighting any delays as soon as possible.
  • Map vehicle routes into refurbishment and distribute workflows to maximise capacity.
  • Work to and achieve individual and site targets – including performance, efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Measure the impact of delays, disruptions and/or changes to plans and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Meet and exceed all KPIs such as: Productivity, Efficiency, Utilisation and Work in Progress (WIP).
  • Understand and react to the financial impact of decisions that are made at site level and how this translates to your department.
  • Monitor the workshop KPI’s and completion targets

Required skills and experience:

  • A customer first mindset.
  • Well developed people management and leadership skills, gained in team leadership roles.
  • Significant experience working as a Vehicle Technician.
  • A resourceful problem solver who loves a challenge and can work under pressure.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Familiar with working with technology, e.g. tablets, smart phones.
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach to leading others.
  • Ability to work fast and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Full valid UK driving licence.
