Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It’s a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect.

This role is based in Sydney, and we’re looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely, and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As the Senior Finance Systems Engineer – Integration & Automation, you will lead the design, build, and operation of AI, workflow, automation, and integration solutions across the Finance Systems footprint. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own the architecture and design of integration, workflow, and automation solutions across Finance Systems-supported platforms, with Workato as the primary delivery surface.

  • Build and operate those solutions end to end, including on-call support, incident response, and continuous improvement as part of ongoing ownership.

  • Drive AI and automation adoption across the Finance Systems footprint, identifying and delivering opportunities where AI, workflow, and automation can replace manual effort, strengthen controls, and unlock new ways for Finance to operate.

  • Lift the integration and automation capability of the wider Finance Systems team, by setting patterns and standards covering error handling, observability, retry logic, idempotency, secrets management, and documentation.

  • Partner with platform engineers, Finance stakeholders, Technical Program Managers, Business Analysts, and implementation partners to translate business requirements into well-architected solutions.

  • Maintain SOX and ITGC controls across the integration and automation layer, including change management, sandbox strategy, regression testing, release governance, test evidence, audit support, and remediation.

  • Act as the design partner when new platforms or automation tooling are evaluated or onboarded, so they land cleanly into the Finance Systems footprint from day one.

You're probably a match if you have

We are looking for a talented, outcome-driven engineer with a strong core in integration engineering and a clear orientation toward where automation and AI are taking the discipline. The ideal candidate will bring depth in some of the following and the appetite to grow into the rest:

  • 5+ years in systems engineering, integration engineering, or a similar role, preferably within SaaS or enterprise finance technology, with hands-on ownership of complex, cross-platform solutions.

  • Deep hands-on Workato experience (or equivalent iPaaS such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Informatica), including recipe design, workflow orchestration, error handling, observability, and platform administration.

  • Strong API integration skills across REST and SOAP, with fluency in XML, JSON, and secure data transport including OAuth, mTLS, SFTP, and PGP.

  • Solid SQL is essential. Python is strongly preferred for data validation, ETL workflows, and scripting.

  • Hands-on delivery of automation solutions in a finance, operations, or compliance context, with practical exposure to or strong interest in applying AI and LLM-based techniques to those problems.

  • Hands-on integration experience with at least one major ERP or core finance platform, such as NetSuite, Oracle Fusion, or SAP, including bidirectional data flows, master data synchronisation, and integration with adjacent finance systems.

  • Proven SOX and ITGC control design and evidence management; audit support and remediation experience.

  • SDLC discipline: change management, sandboxing, automated testing, monitoring, alerting, and release coordination done with rigour.

  • Ability to translate technical complexity for Finance, IT, and leadership audiences without losing the detail that matters.

We’d also love if you have:

  • Familiarity with finance domain concepts: revenue recognition, indirect tax, procure-to-pay flows, intercompany accounting, or treasury operations.

  • Ability to operate in a high-growth environment, thrive on problem-solving, and stay comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proactive and independent in getting work done, while collaborative in bringing people on the journey. We are a team of team players.

About the team

The Information Technology (IT) Supergroup’s vision is to maximise the potential of every Canvanaut through world class technology & service. We realise our vision through our mission pillars to evolve business operations, accelerate productivity and future proof our foundations which serve as the basis for the IT strategies we execute upon.

As part of the Business Platforms Group that sits within the IT Supergroup, the Finance & Legal Systems team supports the evaluation, implementation, administration, and ongoing innovation of the technology stack across the Finance and Legal domains. Our team is solving some of Canva’s biggest challenges by automating and improving the quality of our Finance and Legal processes to allow our employees to do their best work at a place they love. We strive to be integrated with the Finance strategy so we can realise our vision of being the best company in the world. Beyond keeping the stack running well, you'll be expected to identify where automation and AI can reduce manual effort and improve accuracy, and to build it.

About the Role

This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who specialises in connecting systems and automating the work that runs across them. You will be the senior engineer across Canva's Finance technology stack for AI, workflow, automation, and integration, designing and building the solutions that connect Finance Systems platforms with each other, with the broader Canva tech ecosystem, and with the AI and automation tooling that increasingly sits between them.

Your work will span multiple platforms across all Finance domains. Workato is the centre of gravity for integration, workflow, and automation work, with the role spanning system-to-system, system-to-warehouse, event-driven, and AI-augmented patterns depending on what each problem needs.

You will partner with platform owners across Finance Systems, Finance stakeholders, and the broader IT and Data engineering communities. You will be the go-to person when integrations get complicated, when new automation or AI workflows need to land into the stack, and when existing patterns need rethinking to scale.
