Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
For this role, you'll be based at our Sydney HQ — our flagship campus and home to a huge part of the Canva team. You've got flexibility in how you work, but Sydney HQ is where the magic happens!
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Leading global corporate communications and reputation: You’ll lead and craft how we show up across our most visible moments, from our business performance and growth story to major product launches, announcements, and day-to-day media engagement, crafting messaging for journalists, employees, and customers.
- Shaping leadership and founder communications: You’ll partner closely with Canva’s founders and senior leaders to craft clear, compelling narratives across internal moments, media opportunities, customer engagements, and other key external moments, ensuring they’re well prepared and continuously building their profiles over time.
- Building and deepening global media relationships: You’ll develop trusted relationships with top-tier journalists and key opinion leaders, driving proactive storytelling while navigating inbound opportunities with speed and judgment.
- Managing issues and crisis communications: You’ll play a key role in Canva’s response to sensitive and high-stakes situations, partnering cross-functionally to assess risk, shape messaging, and deliver clear, sensitive, and coordinated responses.
- Leading communications for major company moments: You’ll drive communications for Canva’s most significant milestones, including major product launches, acquisitions, investor updates, and company announcements, partnering closely with Marketing and People to deliver clear, coordinated, and high-impact campaigns across channels.
You're probably a match if you have
- Extensive experience operating in high-growth environments: You’ve worked in fast-scaling companies, partnering closely with founders or C-suite leaders on high-stakes, high-visibility communications.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling: You can move seamlessly between formats and audiences, from keynotes and internal communications to investor updates and media statements, crafting clear, compelling narratives in each.
- Experience advising senior leaders: You’ve acted as a trusted partner to executives, shaping messaging and guiding how they communicate in critical moments.
- Strong judgment and influence: You operate with discretion, navigate ambiguity well, and can influence stakeholders at the most senior levels.
- Pace, ownership, and clarity: You’re used to operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments, owning complex work end-to-end and bringing clarity where none exists. You’re comfortable working without structure, predictability, or long lead times, and don’t wait for direction to move.
About the Team
The companies that define categories are the ones that clearly show the world what the future could look like, and bring others along with them. Communications at Canva exists to define and deliver how we’re understood globally, across customers, employees, investors, regulators, and the media.
Our team partners across the business to translate what we’re building into clear, compelling narratives that build momentum, strengthen our reputation, and accelerate our growth. Operating across more than a dozen countries, we ensure Canva is represented with clarity, consistency, and impact on a global stage.
About the Role
As the Communications Lead for Corporate & Leadership Communications, you’ll operate at the centre of Canva’s most visible and high-stakes moments. You’ll be both strategist and operator, equally comfortable in the detail as you are shaping direction, and able to move quickly without compromising quality.
This role is best suited to someone who enjoys seeking out complex challenges, thrives under pressure, and brings a deep curiosity for how stories are shaped and understood. You’ll play a key role in how Canva shows up at a pivotal moment in our journey, as one of the fastest-growing technology companies and one of the most widely used AI platforms globally.
Spanning leadership and founder communications, internal communications, investor and analyst relations, media relations, and owned content including executive social and blog posts, you’ll move seamlessly between detail and direction.
