About the role
Based in London, Canva is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to be part of our highly motivated, tightly knit, and collaborative global legal team. Reporting to the Lead Employment Counsel (based in London), this role will provide regional support to our growing workforce across the EMEA region.

What you’ll do
- Work closely with the Lead Employment Counsel (based in London) and the Global Employment Counsel Team to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach to delivering employment law services to the region
- Provide day-to-day advice to key stakeholders on a broad spectrum of employment law issues, including performance management, disciplinary outcomes, grievances, employee equity, executive compensation, benefits, contingent workers, global mobility, M&A and international expansion
- Prepare and negotiate various employment-related agreements, including employment and settlement agreements
- Lead complex and time-sensitive projects and coordinate internal stakeholders and external advisors
- Support and manage employee disputes and litigation
- Develop and maintain internal resources / templates for the regional team, including the creation of playbooks
- Contribute to the development, implementation and review of workplace policies, processes, guidance and templates in alignment with local laws and practices
- Liaise with external counsel in the UK, Europe and other jurisdictions as required
- Support Canva-wide learning initiatives including to deliver training on employment-related topics, taking account of changes to the law, best practice and Canva
You're probably a match if
- You are admitted to practice in England and Wales
- You have 5+ years of post-qualification experience in employment law gained within a respected law firm or in house organisation, representing or working at rapidly growing international technology companies
- You have an understanding of employment laws and issues across Europe / the EMEA region and have an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically in a commercial environment
- You have good judgment and a collaborative, flexible approach to problem-solving
- You have the ability to communicate complex matters effectively and provide pragmatic advice that is risk aware, not risk averse
- You have a sense of ownership and ‘can do’ attitude and have the ability to navigate stakeholders and drive projects forward
