Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Improve the usability, discoverability, and developer experience of our design system through documentation, tooling, and design system enhancements.
- Identify and deliver on opportunities to reduce friction for consumers, balancing thoroughness with timely execution.
- Own and maintain key systems or tools, ensuring their operational health and continued relevance.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product teams across Canva to understand pain points and refine solutions.
- Advocate for engineering and developer experience needs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Codify and share knowledge through concise documentation, presentations, and internal engagement.
- Help shape team strategy by surfacing insights from your work, advocating for opportunities you see, and connecting tactical execution to broader goals.
- Help teammates grow by providing actionable feedback, sharing lessons learned, and proactively lifting capability across the team.
- Participate in hiring - interviewing candidates, calibrating decisions, and helping maintain a high bar.
You're probably a match if have/are
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience delivering complex projects end-to-end.
- Familiarity with AI/LLM tooling, prompt engineering, or building AI-augmented developer workflows.
- Genuine interest in builder experience - you care about how other engineers, designers, and more learn, discover, and use the tools and systems you build.
- Clear, effective communication skills - you can write concise documentation, explain technical concepts to diverse audiences, and advocate for your ideas.
- User empathy and curiosity - you enjoy talking to the people you're building for, understanding their problems deeply, and translating that into meaningful improvements.
- Comfort with ambiguity - you can take a loosely defined problem, refine it with stakeholders, and drive it to a clear outcome.
- A collaborative, low-ego approach - you work well across teams and recognise when to adapt your position for the best outcome.
Nice to have:
- Experience with design systems, component libraries, web a11y, cross-browser/cross-device development, or frontend infrastructure.
- Background in developer education, documentation, or internal tooling.
- Experience in a platform or enablement role - building for other engineers rather than end users.
