Our flagship campus is in Sydney, Australia but we engage our Contractors and Freelancers all over the world to help us meet our crazy big goals. As a Contractor at Canva you can work remotely in the country listed on this job ad (Mexico), meaning you have ultimate flexibility. Wherever works for you, works for us. Please note, this is a 4-month contract role.

What you’d be doing in this role

We’re looking for a Senior Art Director to help elevate Canva’s creative presence across Brazil and Mexico. You’ll work closely with the Creative Director to shape the visual direction of our campaigns, partnering with designers, copywriters, and freelancers to bring ideas to life across brand, performance, and product.

You’re someone who can generate ideas that people want to watch, share, and talk about. Creating work that feels alive in culture and can live across platforms, from TikTok to OOH, from social to events. You’ll play a key role in making sure Canva stands out, not just as a platform, but as a brand people love.

You’ll need to be a strong designer with a sharp creative eye and a confident voice. Someone who can lead concept development, write clearly, and bring creative thinking into every stage of a project, from concept to execution.

You’re based in either Brazil or Mexico, working directly across both markets.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Lead visual direction across product launches, performance campaigns, and brand storytelling in Brazil and Mexico

  • Come up with ideas people want to watch and share. Creating campaigns that connect with culture and play out across social, OOH, TV, and live experiences.

  • Confidently pitch concepts and present work to senior creative leaders, product marketing managers, and stakeholders, clearly articulating the creative vision and strategic approach.

  • Write with the same creativity and clarity you bring to your designs.

  • Passionate about exceptional art direction and design that’s not just beautiful but also thoughtful, meaningful, and, when it needs to be, provocative.

  • Provide clear, thoughtful direction to external partners and vendors.

  • Work closely with the Creative Director to ensure schedules are accurate and realistic and that deadlines are met.

You're probably a match if

  • 7+ years of experience in advertising.

  • A strong design portfolio that shows range, originality, and attention to craft.

  • Proven ability to develop ideas that stretch across platforms and formats

  • An understanding that spans digital design, product design, and Figma is key to ensuring that your vision is fully realised.

  • Bonus points if you’ve art-directed films or photoshoots before.

  • Excited to jump on Canva to design.

  • Native-level Portuguese, strong Spanish, and confident English. You’ll be working across Brazil, Mexico, and global teams.

This is a remote role with flexible working hours, but you’ll need to balance your schedule to accommodate occasional global team meetings in the evening (6-9 PM)
