What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As the Operations Lead, you will coach a small but mighty operations team and collaborate with the Supergroup Leader Triad (Heads of Product, Engineering, and Design) to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Design Experience Supergroup. Your main goal is to improve operational processes and build foundational frameworks to ensure seamless group operations. Responsibilities include owning group cadences and communications, tracking goals (of which there are many!), organising team events, and leading coordination of complex special projects. You will ensure the successful completion of projects and strategies, by facilitating communication and coordination between key project leads and owners.

Leveraging your expertise in program/project management, administration, and relationship-building, you will work with cross-functional teams to elevate Canva’s operational efficiency, cooperation, and collaboration. The Operations Squad is pivotal in streamlining processes, fostering communication, and overseeing project management to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Owning operations end-to-end: You take charge and ensure we have built cadences and administrative infrastructure that are essential to building operational excellence and hitting goals. You’ll drive project tracking, support on cross-company projects and constantly iterate on this as Canva grows. You will also coordinate and facilitate meetings, defining objectives, purpose and agendas, and constantly looking for ways to improve the operational cadences.
  • Owning visual communication delivery: You are able to take key points and talk tracks and turn these into decks and story-telling that are impactful to both internal and external audiences.
  • Proactively driving initiatives forward: You will keep projects on track by coordinating and tracking timelines, milestones, and statuses, calling out issues as needed. Able to work across big picture initiatives with the ability to break assignments down into manageable efforts and ensure they are able to be tracked and delivered.
  • Forecasting and predicting emerging opportunities: In time, and working with your Lead and Leadership Operations to forecast and anticipate emerging opportunities across Canva, and preemptively work on solutions, constantly looking for areas to improve.
  • Communicating strategically to support Canva: You are proactive in wrangling for your Lead and Leadership Operations, facilitating relationships across the business and helping connect the dots to ensure all relevant teams and partners are up to date and working efficiently.

You're probably a match if;

  • You have proven experience in a Strategy, Program or Project Management role, or similar within the start/scale up global tech environment.
  • You thrive in a reactive, fast-paced environment where things often change by the minute and are able to pivot quickly, and you are comfortable with a high volume of requests
  • You have experience in Organisational Change Management & Communications
  • You are also a visual communication whiz, creating beautiful on brand decks on the fly
  • You have experience prioritising, managing and tracking multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • You are truly self-motivated with a desire to constantly learn and develop a wide range of skills
  • You build relationships quickly and operate with a high level of EQ
  • You're a natural leader. You know how to guide, delegate, and set a great example.
  • You've got a sharp analytical mind, spotting patterns and opportunities for improvement. You're all about making informed, data-driven decisions.
  • You're a problem-solving ace, with critical thinking skills to boot. You're great at implementing effective solutions and mitigating future risks.

About the team

Design Experience is home to both the Canva Editor and our Visual Suite doctypes – it is the core product that our users love – and you will sometimes hear it referred to the company’s ‘engine room’.

Made up of 500 people across six Groups (four in Australia- Editing, Multimedia, Presentations & Whiteboards and Editing Platform, plus two in Europe- Mockups & Data Visualisation), our Supergroup Mission is to “build powerful and simple tools that empower anyone to design anything”, and our Operations Team strives to enable that mission efficiently and effectively.

As part of the broader Canva business, you’ll also be a part of our Operations Partnering Group which comprises of 70+ operations experts, who work to support all areas of Canva to operate as efficiently and productively as possible.
