Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
Want to join Canva?
Lead a team of 4 frontend engineers to make Canva the most accessible design tool in the world.
About the Team
Canva is in a really exciting position in the accessibility space where we need to think about how everyone can use the product as well as how people can make designs that are accessible, ideally by default. Imagine being able to confidently use a design tool to make a beautiful design without seeing it. This is a deep complex problem that is on the cutting edge of not just frontend engineering but also modern web applications. With exceptional sustained internal support from our co founders and core product teams, the Accessibility team are set to achieve this mission!
Join the team to build a feature that makes the experience of editing in Canva more accessible and truly empower the world to design.

What you'll do

  • Work in a cross-functional team to build features that make Canva designs accessible
  • Promote a happy and psychologically safe team, to ensure they are well equipped to deliver on impactful goals
  • Support the team through regular 1:1s, career growth plans and setting clear priorities while also supporting them through to delivery
  • Engage with key team members, ensuring they are kept up to date with key project work
  • Design the technical and product roadmap for the team
  • Collaborate with the team and other internal Canva product teams to proactively identify any challenges across the product and communicate clear solutions. You will raise awareness of accessibility so that all product teams have accessibility at the forefront when shipping new features
  • Contribute to defining, improving, and codifying best practices and methodologies for frontend engineering at Canva
  • Participate in design and code reviews

About you

  • Deep nuanced appreciation and understanding of different disability models, universal design and accessibility-related standards
  • While you have experience writing accessible code and reading detailed specifications (WCAG 2.1 AA, ATAG 2.0), you also have a genuine interest and commitment to creating an accessible experience for all users
  • You're a trusted adviser, mentor and well versed in providing constructive feedback to others and supporting other engineers to reach their goals. This can be in a formal or informal capacity.
  • You thrive when it comes to delivery by setting goals and driving significant technical changes through leading others and as an individual contributor
  • Experience developing rich web applications, ideally Typescript/React/MobX
  • Practical knowledge of data structures and algorithms
