The Special Projects Manager is a dynamic, cross-functional role responsible for conceiving, managing, and executing high-profile initiatives that extend BDG’s editorial vision and business objectives beyond traditional publishing. This position bridges editorial leadership, marketing, sales, events, and partnerships, ensuring that each project is delivered with creativity, precision, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Oversee the planning and execution of special editorial packages, multi-platform content initiatives, events, and partnership-driven activations. Supervise and provide direction to project coordinators, freelancers, and cross-functional team members, including assigning tasks, reviewing work, and providing feedback.
  • Editorial Integration: Work closely with editorial leadership to develop innovative story formats, thematic issues, and out-of-home projects that amplify the brand’s voice.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Liaise between editorial, marketing, sales, design, production, and digital teams to ensure smooth execution of multi-channel projects.
  • Client & Partner Management: Serve as a point of contact for external partners, sponsors, and talent, ensuring deliverables align with brand and partner expectations.
  • Creative Ideation: Generate ideas for unique editorial extensions—such as live events, podcasts, social media campaigns, newsletters, or experimental storytelling formats.
  • Timeline & Budget Oversight: Develop, manage, and approve project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation with discretion and authority to adjust as needed.
  • Performance Tracking: Measure success of projects through audience engagement and ROI, and present learnings to leadership.
  • External Contributors: Exercise discretion and independent judgment in selecting vendors, allocating budget resources, and determining project priorities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in media, publishing, or talent management.
  • Strong editorial sensibility with a proven ability to translate ideas into multi-platform executions through exceptional planning and strong relationships.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, timelines, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience managing and directing staff or project teams with accountability for performance outcomes.
