About Buildkite

Buildkite’s CI platform is trusted by the world’s leading engineering teams, shipping software to over 1,000,000,000 daily users.

Job Overview

We’re looking for a Staff Content Engineer to build the technical proof engine behind our narrative: the reference implementations, demos, guides, and reproducible artifacts that make developers feel—quickly—that Buildkite is the real deal.

This role exists because in devtools, trust is earned through working code and useful artifacts, not claims. You’ll take Buildkite’s strategic pillars and turn them into concrete, developer-grade proof that compounds: assets that reduce adoption friction, clarify “why Buildkite,” and arm Sales and DevRel with credibility that survives scrutiny. BK brand.next 2026 _ Strategic …

The bar is intentionally high. We’re only interested in candidates who can ship production-grade technical content artifacts with engineering discipline versioned, tested, documented, maintained while staying commercially aware about what proof actually moves a funnel.

🚀 What You’ll Do

Ship a dev-first demand engine

  • Own campaign execution across priority pillars, from concept→asset plan→launch→iteration
  • Build programs that serve devs and buyers; credibility up top, clarity in the middle, conversion at the bottom
  • Create a repeatable cadence that aligns our Labs (Brand Systems + Dev Voice + GTM)

Ship proof devs can run, not just read

  • Build reference implementations that show what we enable and why it’s different
  • Create hands-on, reproducible demo environments that make eval credible
  • Treat public artifacts like product: maintained, versioned, documented

Turn strategy pillars into technical artifacts

  • Translate our strategic pillars into a backlog of proof assets
  • Identify proof gaps
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure proof reflects reality

Reduce adoption friction across the journey

  • Build assets mapped to journey stages
  • Create practical time-to-first-value accelerators

Make proof distributable and reusable

  • Package technical proof so it travels through GTM, Sales and Support
  • Collaborate deeply so distribution stays technically honest and high-signal
  • Keep artifacts coherent with the Brand

Instrument and evolve what works

  • Define success signals per asset: adoption/usage, time-to-value, conversion influence, and support deflection BK brand.next 2026 (4)
  • Use real feedback (support tickets, sales objections, community questions) to prioritise improvements and new builds BK brand.next 2026 _ Strategic …
  • Refresh and retire assets like a system—no abandoned repos, no rotting docs

Run an OS that compounds

You’ll operate with a cadence that scales beyond any single person:

  • Proof loop; identify gap→build→validate→publish→reuse
  • Signal loop; capture→categorize→route→action
  • Adoption loop; template→onboarding path→activation→feedback→iterate
  • Quality loop; technical review→tests→docs standards→sampling→refresh/retire
  • Distribution loop; package→amplify→learn→improve
  • Coherence loop; align with Brand/GTM/Dev Voice→reduce drift→keep proof consistent

What You Bring

This role only works with engineering credibility and taste for proof

  • Strong engineering background; you’ve shipped and operated real systems, and you can build things others can run
  • Comfort in CI/CD and dev workflows
  • Ability to build production-grade examples
  • Strong technical writing and teaching ability
  • Great judgment; you protect trust and know the difference between content and proof
  • Systems thinking; you can turn messy reality into a simple set of reusable assets and paths
  • Cross-functional fluency
  • Clear async communication; you document decisions, tradeoffs, and learnings so others can build on them
  • High agency; you own outcomes end-to-end and ship continuously

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building CI platforms/features, plugins, SDKs, or devtools
  • OSS track record: repos, libraries, plugins, templates, or credible technical writing
  • Familiarity with event demos/workshop facilitation and turning builds into live moments
  • Experience building eval sandbox environments
  • Comfort with lightweight automation to glue systems together

How We Work

  • Autonomously, with agency; you'll join a small team of high-performing ICs, with the ability to drive and influence business impact from the start
  • Async by default, with focused sync for decisions, pairing, and unblock moments
  • We ship iteratively; small releases, tight feedback loops, measurable improvements
  • We document and work in the open; decisions, risks, tradeoffs, fails, the lot
  • We aim for craft and delight, but we don’t worship polish over progress
