Cultivating an Engineering culture of innovation, collaboration, connection, inclusion, and purpose is what the SVP of Engineering will do while creating strong bonds and alignment with our Product, Customer Success, Product Marketing and Sales teams. Bringing a heightened sense of urgency (without emergency) and thought leadership in how we build, execute, and operate our collective vision. Delivering video and audio to hundreds of millions of users globally is no small feat, and we’re looking for a leader to help grow that by an order of magnitude.

The SVP of Engineering will set the strategy for the modernization and leadership of the entire technical infrastructure, continue to drive Brightcove at the forefront of the media ecosystem, foster engineering excellence, and innovate on new technologies and capabilities. The SVP will nurture and grow a world class team, manage priorities and projects, and set the architectural vision for the company based upon business objectives, product vision and roadmap. The role is a leader in defining the overall business strategy as well, as engineering is one corner of our foundation.

This role will lead a global Engineering team of 150+ and will work to scale, grow, improve, and evolve Brightcove’s platform development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, inspire, motivate and energize global software engineering teams, leading innovative, market-responsive and competitive product development for Brightcove’s world-class video platform and portfolio of services.
  • Strategically guide the implementation of Brightcove’s vision, design and strategy with high influence across all areas of the business; Partnering and collaborating closely with Product, Customer Success (Tech Support & Professional Services), Sales and Product Marketing teams.
  • Provide expertise and insight on engineering best practices, development operations mindsets, coding, data management, multi-cloud architectures, security by design and default, infrastructure, roadmap development, project management, team development, privacy and engineering innovation.
  • Partner with Product Management to ensure engineering's vision for success is aligned with product messaging, releases, and strategy.
  • Define the vision of success for the engineering organization to achieve Brightcove’s strategic goals, empower the engineering organization to achieve that success and hold them accountable for the outcomes.
  • Establish a world class culture, continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, efficiency and sense of urgency, with a relentless focus on delivering excellence to our customers.
  • Build for quality - by being the most trusted solution in streaming. Applying best-in-class technology skills to help Engineering teams unblock and execute with quality and care.
  • Establish and implement processes for change management, disaster recovery, business continuity, and (internal) customer usage/access.
  • Formulate and execute process and organizational improvement direction and programs which enhance overall effectiveness; proactively seeks ways to improve employee experience.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with 15+ years of experience in the software product industry with at least 9+ in a Senior Leadership role
  • Experience managing global teams of 150+ engineers, including engineering leadership
  • B2B engineering experience within a SaaS software environment is strongly preferred
  • Expertise in the Media Ecosystem
  • Experience building exceptional engineering organizations with a track record of teams delivering high quality and on-time complex software products to production
  • Collaborative with a “one team” mindset; focus on building trust and respect with a positive attitude and growth mindset
  • Well versed in modern engineering best practices and Agile development methodologies
  • Passion for delighting customers and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to influence, educate and inspire others
  • Comfortable with managing many work streams, and coordinating resources and prioritizing work across teams
  • Ability to review code to determine quality and areas for improvement
  • Ability and willingness to drive the day to day operations of an engineering organization
  • Experience fostering an environment of innovation and promoting healthy habits across teams with a high bar for engineering and development efforts and behavior
  • Ability to engage on architectural discussions and determine tradeoffs and drive discussion towards decisions

The base salary range listed is across locations in the US. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to an applicant's experience, specialized skills, internal alignment and an applicant's work location.
