Technical, Quality & Compliance Lead - Gifting (Food, Drink, Home & Lifestyle)
IT, Quality Assurance, Compliance / Regulatory · Full-time
Nuneaton, UK
As our gifting range grows, and more of it is our own brand, we’re expanding the team to bring technical expertise in-house alongside our Strategic Procurement and Supply Chain pillars. As our first dedicated technical hire for gifting, you’ll report to the Head of Procurement & Inventory and be the technical lead for every non-floral product we sell. The role is primarily UK-focused, with a smaller remit supporting our other European markets.
You’ll work closely with our Range, Strategic Procurement, Supply Chain, Brand and Warehouse teams, as well as our on-site quality team. This is a rare opportunity to build a technical function from the ground up and see your work directly protect our customers and our brand as we scale.
⚙️ What you'll be doing:
Own Non-flower Quality & Compliance End-to-End: Be the technical lead for all our non-horticultural and add-on products, e.g. Food & Drink, Candles & Home Accessories, Pamper Products, Textiles. Define our requirements and standards based on product risk and proactively flag risks before they reach customers.
Build the Framework: You’ll set up how we do quality and compliance for multi-category: risk assessment, product specifications (including clear sensory and acceptance criteria), testing and transit-testing requirements, and the structure of our quality and compliance platform.
Supplier Onboarding & Auditing: Get involved early in the NPD process, working with Range and Procurement to assess the risk of new products and suppliers. Lead technical onboarding, from document reviews to on-site audits (to BRCGS standard) for higher-risk own-brand suppliers, such as ready-to-eat and allergen-sensitive products.
Technical Due Diligence: Own the collection, review and auditing of technical, safety and regulatory documentation across all categories (food, drink, candles, toys and other gifting items), making sure our supplier & product information collation and due diligence is watertight.
Labelling & Regulatory Sign-off: Own pre-launch sign-off of own-brand labels and customer-facing product information, including ingredients, allergens, CE/UKCA marks and category-specific warnings. Put controls in place so this stays accurate across every channel when a recipe or ingredient changes.
Issue & Incident Management: Lead our response to quality incidents. Drive root-cause investigations with suppliers and/or fulfilment site leads, recommend balanced, practical solutions to senior stakeholders, and hold suppliers and warehouses to account on corrective actions. Lead engagement with regulators where needed.
Traceability & Recall Readiness: Own our traceability and recall/withdrawal processes as a standing capability, including running regular mock recalls to test and improve them.
Surveillance Testing & Performance: Introduce surveillance testing across our own-brand range so we catch issues before our customers do. Set and own quality KPIs for our supplier base and lead the quality elements of supplier reviews. Including monitoring and taking action related to customer complaints & quality metrics.
Own Site Quality Processes & Frameworks: Take overall responsibility for the quality and compliance processes and frameworks at our sites for non-horticultural products. You’ll set the standards our warehouse teams work to, from intake checks and non-conformance handling to documentation and record-keeping, keep them up to date as our range evolves, and review site records to make sure they’re consistently applied. You’ll partner closely with our on-site fulfilment leaders and quality team, who carry out the day-to-day checks.
Regulatory Monitoring: Keep on top of changes in food and product safety law and turn them into practical updates to our standards, both internally and with suppliers.
✅ You’ll love this role if you…
Have a strong food safety and technical background (5+ Years of Experience) - You’ve worked in a food technical or quality role (retailer, brand or manufacturer side) and have solid grounding in HACCP, allergen management, specifications, risk assessment and UK food law.
