At Commerce, our mission is to empower businesses to innovate, grow, and thrive with our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. Simply said, we help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers, working together to shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you.

The Commerce B2B team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to make an impact by helping build reliable, scalable systems that power merchants around the world. We support innovators, creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, and business owners at every stage of their growth, and we’re looking for someone who enjoys solving real problems in a complex domain.

BigCommerce Engineering is on a mission to build the leading SaaS ecommerce platform.

We work closely with engineering teams across multiple domains, product managers, designers, business stakeholders, and external partners to deliver new experiences, improve existing ones, and iterate quickly. We value engineers who take ownership, improve code quality, and help uplift the systems around them.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain backend services and internal tools using Python and Go, with a focus on clarity, performance, and reliability

  • Work in existing codebases to refactor, simplify, and improve long-term maintainability

  • Diagnose and resolve issues across the stack, including service logic, data flows, integrations, and API interactions

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, refine stories, and deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes

  • Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to improving team practices around testing, error handling, and observability

  • Participate in code reviews and provide practical guidance to less experienced engineers

  • Look for opportunities to reduce technical debt, improve performance, and strengthen system resilience

  • Contribute to improving the developer experience through better tooling, documentation, and automation

Who You Are

  • You have at least 4 years of hands-on engineering experience building backend or full-stack products in languages like Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar

  • Education: Preferred Minimum Bachelor's degree in CS, EE, SW, CE, MIS; or equivalent experience or completed either a comprehensive software engineering boot camp

  • You write maintainable, well-tested code and take pride in improving the systems you work in

  • You are comfortable working in existing services as well as designing new ones, and you enjoy solving problems across data, APIs, and architecture

  • You communicate clearly, can explain your reasoning, and collaborate well with engineers and non-engineers alike

  • You take ownership of outcomes, follow through on commitments, and value reliability and predictability

  • You enjoy mentoring and supporting others and contribute positively to the team's culture and technical growth

  • You stay current with modern tools and approaches without being tied to a specific technology. You choose tools based on fit, not fashion

  • You are proactive, curious, and able to work independently while being a strong team collaborator
