Position: Sr. Software Engineer (Scala), Storefront

Location: 11305 Four Points Drive, Building 2, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78726

Responsibilities: Delivers high-quality, maintainable code and supports major projects with best practices. Enhances shared libraries, provides detailed code reviews, and optimizes performance. Skilled in debugging, including threading and asynchronous code, and mentors teammates on tools. Acts as a domain expert with knowledge of related areas, advocating for effective design patterns and creating clear documentation. Understands and explains team architecture and BigCommerce’s platform’s structure. Leads project planning and task breakdown with reliable estimates, actively participates in team ceremonies, and drives process improvements. Maintains a clear understanding of team impact, organizational interactions, and BigCommerce’s goals, ensuring code aligns with the strategic vision for BigCommerce’s domain. Effectively collaborates within and beyond the team, actively participating in ceremonies, encouraging contributions, and offering support across areas. Serves as the primary contact for projects, communicating clearly, resolving conflicts, providing constructive feedback, and escalating issues when needed. Proactively identifies and prioritizes domain-specific issues, ensuring project success by managing dependencies and advocating for solutions. Operates independently, resolves production issues, supports related domains, and escalates as needed. Balances immediate needs with long-term technical goals and participates in on-call rotations. Takes on challenging project elements, emphasizes best practices, and shares expertise with the team. Commits to goal delivery, supports teammates, and mentors junior engineers while actively pursuing personal growth. Serves as a subject matter expert for new team members, participating in hiring and providing feedback. Collaborates organization-wide to deliver value and engages in activities beyond feature work, such as hackathons and culture initiatives.

Educ./experience: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field, plus one (1) year of post-baccalaureate experience as a Software Engineer or in a related position. Experience must include: Scala 2.12, ScalaPB for protocol buffers, Java gRPC for communication protocols, PHP and TypeScript for supporting frontend/backend tests, Opentracing for distributed tracing and Prometheus for monitoring and performance metrics.

Salary range: $132,000 - $165,000 per year
