Senior Scala Software Engineer

BigCommerce is disrupting the e-commerce industry as the SaaS leader for fast-growing, mid-market businesses. We enable our customers to build intuitive and engaging stores at a fraction of the cost to support every stage of their growth.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Scala) for the Catalog team. This growing team is looking for an engineer with a strong technical background who will focus on developing new features as well as improving the performance and reliability of existing Catalog domain services. We primarily use technologies like Scala, RabbitMQ, MySQL, Redis, gRPC to build one of the fastest and reliable ecommerce platforms. Some of the services and components are also done in Go and PHP, and knowing those is a huge advantage.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build highly-available, high-performance, redundant, and scalable distributed systems in a polyglot environment
  • Engage in technical discussion of new solutions and architectures
  • Build new features with a focus on testability, extensibility, and maintainability
  • Drive our technical roadmap and direction of our stack
  • Write code that is high-performance, maintainable, clear, and concise
  • Advocate for modern development practices and tools
  • Ensure that technical decisions support our goals of quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security
  • Support an open, positive, and energized culture
  • Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the teams located across the Globe

Who You Are:

  • 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
  • 2+ years of Scala in a production environment, performance monitoring and tuning is a plus
  • Knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming techniques
  • Experience monitoring and operating microservices
  • Knowledge of highly scalable architectures
  • Strong desire to learn new languages, frameworks, best practices and design patterns
  • Write code that is performant, fault-tolerant, maintainable, testable and concise
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure best practices
  • Have great attention to detail
  • Experience monitoring and operating microservices
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and ticketing systems such as JIRA.
